Its the first drink that got me drunk

Postby stargirl » Tue Apr 12, 2005 12:23 am

I have just added a thread to above topic and I am at the moment sitting here with my ...? vodka/tonic - why do I have to keep adding more vodka to my glass when my husband can make himself a cup of tea after one drink and then go off to bed - why do I have to know that I need enough vodka to last me for hours before the shop shuts.;
If you have read my answer to above link you will wonder why I drink alcohol at all - yet no day is acceptable without it - why can't I not take that first drink without the next and the next until I can't go to bed until there no alcohol left - yes I know the answer.

I understand. I always drank like you. I do not have to drink today, one day at a time. I went to AA years ago and have not had a drink since. They also fixed all my other problems as well. AA only works though, if you want to stop.

No you don’t. The answer is odder than even you think.

When I first showed up in the rooms of AA, I was told that I could not think my way into right action. (not drink) I had to act my way into right thinking. (work the steps of AA) They told me to DO the next right thing, and the next right thought would follow. It seemed a** backwards to me at the time, but I tried it anyway. As odd as it sounds, right actions do produce right thoughts, not the other way around.
Quitting drinking is a tough one, self will ain’t worth a damn against it. It won’t work.
Find yourself an AA meeting, and go to it. You don’t know what you don’t know.

On the road to the good stuff,
Richard S.
