I have a huge addiction to alcohol lately and just cannot seem to stop drinking. The withdrawl is one thing, the other is that when I try to stop I get so depressed. I have nobody that I feel comfortable talking to about my drinking because I am ashamed. Can anyone here offer tidbits of advice on how you may have stopped drinking? I drink 18 beers a day and it's literally going to kill me if I cannot stop.

Hoping doesn't really work.. it just postpones. But action works.
Look in your directory. Get the number for AA. Call the hotline. Talk to whoever is manning the phones when you call. Spill a bit of your story - tell 'em you're killing yourself. Your story will be similar to their story. Keep calling and talking til you get the courage or desperation to go to a meeting. And discover that there are ALOT of people just like you out there who've found a way to stop drinking.
Action... good luck.

It's time I owned up to this crap and went to AA. I've called them and they have meetings every day in my area, on a very consistent basis. I'm tired and fed up with feeling like crap all of the time.
From here on out, I'll let my anger at myself drive me to do the right thing. This absolutely sucks and I WANT MY LIFE BACK!
No drug is going to suck the life out of me any more!

Good! Go to a meeting today. TODAY. While you're feeling this way. No excuses. Today. Action! Nothing will change until something changes. Start the change today.

Thank you all. I'm going to a meeting tonight and start my life on the right path. I'm mad as hell at myself for letting this go on so far.
God Bless you all.

Good luck with AA. I went to AA years ago when I was young and have not had a drink since. You never have to drink again.
Good Luck,
