I recognized my drinking problem based on the consequences it had on my life and the problems it created in my relationships. And it was the people in my life who insisted I get help. It's hard to see it as a problem on your own when you don't care that it's making your life dysfunctional.

It is a problem when you have a holiday to look forward to and plan how to get your drink fix for the week!

My sobriety was tested over the Christmas and New Years holidays. My family and friends around me were drinking champagne and I had nothing alcoholic to drink! I'm still completely sober and going strong on staying away from alcohol completely, but I can't say the same for other drugs, the temptations is coming back, but I have no urges to drink at least.

It can be difficult to recognize a drink problem for some people. I drank daily for three years for social reasons and never realized i had a problem. Even in between those three years i tried to have breaks never succeeded and still didn't realize.

It wasn't till i ended up in hospital, got caught drink driving, and nearly lost my wife i realized.

What if you answer an emphatic YES to pretty much every single question in that criteria, but you have never had a single negative consequence from your drinking?

What do you do if you really want to quit but haven't needed to?

When does a habit become a problem?

"What if you answer an emphatic YES to pretty much every single question in that criteria, but you have never had a single negative consequence from your drinking? "

Then you've been darn lucky and better get off the booze ASAP
OR, more likely you're blind to the negative consequences which others
can see.

The best way I've ever found to distinguish if you are a problem drinker is if the thought has ever crossed your mind.

If you think you have a problem, regardless of whether you fit a set criteria, then you do.
