Well, you don't say *how much* drinking you're concerned about?

Certainly getting really plastered on a regular basis could lead to behavior that could trash your life... and give you *reason* to be anxious?

Does that seem to be going on?

Also, in response to your one other post, Chucky suggested, "You should ask your doctor questions about the drugs given to you too".

Did you? That seems to me like a good idea.

In regards to how much I drink can vary from 6-9 beers a night.

And as far as the meds are they a bad mix?

I called the Dr. today about whats been going on and contacted the crisis team, so monday I will be talking with a treatment center.

6-9 beers is quite a bit, so.... congratulations on the treatment center.

Sounds like a good step. Just be prepared for lifelong follow-up. Sobriety is a challenge that really benefits from fellowship (like AA, for example).

As for the meds/alcohol mix... most prescriptions come with warnings if they shouldn't be mixed with alcohol -- but your docs can say more.

Of course treatment will hopefully guide you to some better coping strategies.

Good luck.

Many people also use drinking as a way to cover up anxiety. It calms you but as you know there are drawbacks. Is there any way you could be using alcohol is deal with your anxiety even subconsiously? Also withdrawing from alcohol can be VERY anxiety produceing because of alcohol's tranquilizing effects. You're a brave person to be fighting this. It's one of the hardest things a person can do. Do you know which treatment center? How do you feel about going to a treatment center? Do you want to quit?
Best Wishes!

I'm looking forward to it. 99% wants to quit I think the other part is just being afraid of the changes. I only had 3 beers last night wich is a big change and today I actually feel less anxious. Tonight I'm going to go for 2 , then one then none (per doctors advise so I don't withdraw)...hoping it works.

thank you!

Yes, if you drink daily you will be more anxious while sober.

anxiety problems from drinking?

I guess so!

That is why I showed up at my first AA meeting. I thought I was losing my mind! I was scared all the time. Scared of just about everything. Scared of the doorbell, scared of the mail, scared that someone would see me scared.

I am a big man, 6’3”, 220 lbs and I am not supposed to be scared of stuff. But I was. I would be sitting in my chair in my home office staring at an unopened bottle of whiskey, and the biggest decision I was going to make that day was when was I going to open it. Right now at 9 in the morning, or was I going to putt it off till noon.

Fear, anxiety if you wish is the one thing we all have in common. Our drinking and the deceitful things we do to maintain access to alcohol, breed that sort or thing.

It is just the way it is.

Keep drinking and whatever troubles you are experiencing in your life will continue. In fact, over enough time, they will get worse, I guarantee it. The sort of things that are happening in your life will not get better on their own, not while you continue to drink.

Well I haven't reached my goal of going down to 2 yet. still at 3 a night, but I'm still proud of myself. Tonight I am gung ho for only having 2 and then work with that. I never thought over the last 5 years I would ever be able to have only 2 or 3 beers and actually be able to handle not having anymore, and guess what. I can. Now I just need to quit all togather . What I do know is I don't ever want to drink more, it's not worth feeling the way I did.

As far as the treatment clinic. I have to get pre approval from my ins. first and more than likley the clinic I found isn't covered so they'll probably refer me to a lame counsler (that I have been to befor(for couples theropy ) who I found useless.

I guess I am just taking it a day at a time and looking for improvement.

On a HIGH note. I am deathly afraid of Thunderstorms, they make me physically sick. Well we had one the other day and normally I would've reached for a beer to come me down. I totally resisted the urge. Didn't touch one . I was so proud! first time in years I haven't made it through one with out drinking.

Just want to thank all of you for taking the time to comment and listen.

Good luck with reducing your drinking. Your plan is a sensible thing to do. With a little luck you may be successful. However, if you ever feel that you need help to stop, try AA. I have not had a drink since my first contact with the program, and my life is beyond my wildest dreams. But, good luck. Many of us in AA may have been able to stop like you are doing if we started early enough in our drinking. Most alcoholics seem to keep drinking until they lose everything that is dear to them.

Good Luck,
