Beccy… only you can diagnose yourself, somebody else’s opinion of what you are or not is of no value. But when you do look at your relationship with alcohol, be completely honest with yourself.
Like Jim said, mood disorders and problems with alcohol do present themselves simultaneously on occasion.
Here is one of my favorite tests for alcoholism:
What is your favorite alcoholic drink? The one you really like?
Well, get yourself a big helping of that drink and do this experiment.
Drink two decently sized shots/glasses/highballs whatever of it, and then stop! Not another drop for 24 hours. Do it again tomorrow, two drinks then nothing more for the rest of the day.
Do it every day for a week.
A real alcoholic will have a hell of a time pulling that off. After one or two, the phenomenon of craving sets in and we want more. We say, screw the experiment, I want to get as drunk as I can right now.
Come back here and tell us how the experiment went. Remember Beccy, rigorous honesty is the key.
