Does anyone like being an alchoholic?

Postby Chulture » Tue Jun 23, 2015 10:52 pm

I love it. I live by myself so I don't have any family/relationships to destroy. Is it normal as an alchoholic to think like this?

In the early stages of the disease, yes, it is. I used to get absolutely hammered in my favourite bar five times a week or so, and because I was friends with the bartenders I didn't have to pay for most drinks. I loved it. I only stopped loving it when my doctor used the words "liver transplant".

Oh, alright. Hopefully nothing serious happened to your liver. I will go to supervised detox soon because I'm poor and most of my money goes into drinking and I feel like I'm wasting time getting wasted all the time and I could be spending my "drinking time" doing more productive things. Even though I absolutely love drinking.

No, No and No...I just left hospital after 5 days....from drinking for a month straight and not eating. I HATE being an alcoholic....I guess if it works for you it is ok..as long as your eating and functioning....and taking vitamins...like magnesium, potassium....folic acid.....most alcoholics die by the age of 58 if they continue to drink.....I guess it depends on how much you drink and what your other health habits are.

I forgot to respond. Sorry!

My liver has been harmed considerably by alcohol and by medication that I was taking. With the exception of a very short relapse I have not used alcohol for 2.5 years now. But that relapse... there was alcohol in the house, I was alone, I poured myself a glass, then another, and then I threw up all over the bathroom because I forgot that my liver is no longer used to a pint of whisky per day. And then the whisky ended in the toilet, and I ended up at a NA meeting.

One of the biggest advantages of being sober -- other than the obvious lack of hangover -- is that I no longer get up in the morning, sit and shout "###$!!!" because I suddenly remember what I did last night.
