Powerless

I remember listening to a man in AA once upon a time. He had a deep southern drawl...He explained he was powerless. He had lost all hope. He had been defeated. I've never heard anyone speak with so much depth and certainty in my life. I looked in his eyes, and I saw his pain.

I remember thinking he must be faking... He couldn't feel like me. It's all a conspiracy. These people are planted here. They're lying. He's lying. He doesn't understand how it feels to be completely powerless. He's one of them.

... he's one of them.


I still remember his voice and his eyes. I thought he was an actor. How could he understand how it feels to be completely powerless in this world? It was different than anything I've heard in my entire life.

I think he asked God for help.

Have any of you ever lost faith?

Yeah I lost all hope I could stop drinking but now have 4 years of sobriety. Most every day is a good day for me now. It took a while for that to happen.

lot's of times i lost faith. Almost everyday. like a loss soul wondering around.
