Hello, new to the forum

Postby Meowkitty7 » Sat Jul 13, 2013 4:15 am

I am a 27 year old female. Over the past 3 years I've been having a hard time controlling my alcohol intake. Either out at a bar, or home. I'll get this strong urge to drink, which causing high anxiety until I start drinking. I've had so many bad things happen because of my drinking, doing things I regret, losing my job, nearly losing my boyfriend. I want to know how to take control of my drinking and have more self control. I nearly lost control last week but stayed strong and had 3 tall cans, stopping there. I'd like to meet people who have the same issue I'm facing, how do you stay strong?
Thank you for taking the time to read :D

Hi MeowKitty,

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds as though you've had a lot of problems and loss as a result of the drinking. Have you ever sought help for this?

I'm a recovering polyaddict, meaning that it's not any one substance that I gravitate toward. Sometimes that includes alcohol.

If that were possible you wouldn't be in the position you're in. You can cut down, drink only during weekends, try to do it only around others, but it will always be there waiting for a moment when you're feeling weak. I tried making rules for myself but they'd always break down.
When it comes to drugs I have no control whatsoever. It's stay away from them entirely, or let it all slowly seep into my life again. It shocks me at how gradual and harmless it seems each time.
I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that the ultimate act of control would be to admit you have no control at all.

Sorry I can't give you the answer you're looking for. I do hope you find some support here though!
Blame it on me, but know that I won't regret one iota.

Thank you for responding. Luckily I don't have problems with drugs, though I do smoke marijuana occasionally. Heavy drinking runs in he family as well as alcoholism, at least on my Mothers side. I find that when I'm in a good mood all around, my drinking is ok.. I don't go out of control.. But if I'm in a bad mood or even an ok mood and something ticks me off or triggers a bad memory, then I'll go overboard. Lately I've been so I think that talking to people helps a lot because they can be there for you when you need someone. I believe that control my intake is an everyday thing, and it might be something I'll deal with for the rest of my life. Thanks again :D

Why do you think this is? In retrospect, it was hard for me to handle really intense feelings that were the result of memories. That's when my cravings tend to pop up as well. It's taken quite some time and therapy to wade through them in a healthier way. Do you have some kind of treatment?

Oh yes.

Take care :)
