I had severe anorexia that eventually became severe agoraphobia. I didn't used to be able to leave the house. I got addicted to benzos; Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, and now Restoril. I attended my first NA meeting tonight. But I am afraid to pitch the drugs. I went off of my meds for a few days and literally felt like I couldn't even think straight. Like something was wrong with me. I am going back to therapy, but how else can I help myself? I was also abusing caffeine, so maybe that had an impact? I am just so afraid the anxiety will come back and smack me in the face. How did any of you overcome agoraphobia without having the $#%^ drugged out of you? Advice please?

Hey! You know, it seems that people learn certain skills to help them deal with anxiety and agoraphobia in therapy, so you could apply them when you're out of therapy too. Maybe people will post about what they learned here.

It's best to avoid the caffeine, I actually abuse caffeine myself, I always wind up with an energy drink or coffee cup in my hand several times a day. Some of the meds you listed there can be addicted such as Valium.
If you feel that it is a need to see the therapist again, go for it. They can help open up again and possibly mellow the urge to take meds.
Stay strong.
So, where is your head at after all?
