Could I Get It?

Postby ~Kathy~ » Sun May 22, 2005 5:15 am

I was housebound mostly for a few months because I wrecked my car and I didn't go to school this semester and I don't work. I also have no real life friends, no family that I see and of course my mom works all the time. I have spent most of my time in the house cleaning, exercising, and at the computer. I wanted to get out of the house so bad yet I felt safer at home and was so nervous everytime I left. I have my car back and I now do simple things like run errands and go to parks, things where I am alone. I am pretty sure I have either AvPD or SAD that's why I choose to be alone, I was wondering if agorphobia is something you can get by isolating yourself too much?

Hey Hon,

Yes you can develop agoraphobia that way.
If you start to avoid things like leaving your house for whatever reason you can start to have that phobia of going anywhere.

However if you are in fact leaving your house to go do errands, or to go to the park etc, then that is a good sign.

I'd be concerned if you were avoiding ever leaving, then that would become and issue.
