HI Rafael -

I used alcohol as a self-medicating tool all of my 30s. I finally stopped. You can too.

Try replacing alcohol with something healthier. I don't know how severe your alcoholism is, but I would try running, it really helped me. I tried self medicating with alcohol and marihuana myself, but I understood that none of those things really work. So I started to exercise intensely. It doesn't heal you, but it distracts your mind for a few hours and that made things better for me.

I was an alcoholic for 20 years, currently 880 days sober.

All I know is that I'm basically "stunted" 20 years in the past, and I've got a lot of pieces to put back together.

If I'd done it for 40 years, I'd be stuck 40 years behind.

It sounds glib, but there is no better time to try and stop than today.

What you think is self medication is actually self paralysis and sedation. Nothing goes away, it just waits in a bigger and bigger pile for you.

I used to self-medicate with alcohol. It brought temporary relief, but it made my meds not work and interact dangerously...and I ALWAYS was more anxious the next day. I finally came to terms that I was making things worse and I'm glad I don't drink anymore.
