Masturbation, Pornography and Anxiety

Postby BagelsaurusChrist » Wed Aug 02, 2017 10:57 am

I'm wondering what the link is, preferably from an anecdotal perspective, between masturbation, masturbation to pornography, and pornography habits independently, to anxiety. It is my experience, first hand and from a decent pool of testimonies, that every form of instantaneous pleasure source (sugary drinks, pornography and masturbation) is found as a habit in individuals, often males, with social anxiety.

What is your relation with pornography and other gratification sources generally?

This is a very interesting question, I have thought about this but I cannot get to a satisfying conclusion.

Looking at myself (I have SA), I do regularly consume sugary drinks, and indeed also masturbate and watch pornography frequently. Sugary drinks I could easily give up, except coffee maybe, but the other two probably not. I believe masturbation is normal and not problematic, but I have to say it is virtually impossible for me to give it up for any substantial length of time. One week would already be insanely long, I have never tried any longer than that to abstain. Every 2 days and sometimes 3 is where I am at, and this is applying some self control, but definitely manageable. I do not believe in nofap, I personally view something like that as a cult and it works for some people because they really believe in it. A bit like religion in a way.
Porn is something I generally do not believe to be a good thing. I don't think it is evil either. And it depends on what you watch. I mostly like watching camgirls, and I find it extremely hard to kick that habit. I watch on average once a week. I am hooked because the girls can be so god damn hot, I don't ever meet that level of hotness in my real life lol. I don't like watching fake commercial porn where people are just mechanically going through the motions without any real emotion. I get nothing out of that, but that's a bit OT.

Other instant gratification sources, well I am a sucker for it in general, yes there are plenty. I can spend way too much time on the web wasting time, doing things I sort of need to do but not really, and also don't forget YouTube, I can waste a day on that site easily. I can get hooked to video games, now I don't play them anymore, but I used to and easily did that for far too long as well. It is how I grew up. When I was young I was playing for hours on end.

Now when I stand back and look at all this, it is not really uncommon I think? Most young guys with a healthy set of balls are going to be doing / are drawn to these kinds of things. But what do I know? I think there are some people who are going to say something like "dude, you are way overthinking this, don't stress about this, everyone does these things" and others who say "no all this instant gratification is very detrimental, nofap / noporn all the way bla bla".

Again, what do I know? I am in my twenties, no real experience with girls, so maybe it is a big problem, but then I look at one of my friends, who is with a girl for quite some time now, I got into porn earlier than him, now he and his GF are sharing weird porn related jokes and stuff sometimes on FB :? and I get the sense that he / they are into some stuff to some degree, or maybe it is a thing they just do idk?

How do you think I feel being 51, and still "pulling the wire" for the past 30 years, and drinking Coke!!!!
