Last night I hurt myself and now I am scared to go to sleep

Postby Pat1982 » Mon Aug 02, 2010 4:06 am

So, last night, I went to bed early around 11. Now, thing get scarey. I woke up at 3:30 pulling my arm out of my bedroom window. Shattered double pane window. I didn't get stiches but very close. I gashed my arm in about 5 or 6 places, one place in a very very scary spot on my wrist. The first thing I remember while waking up to this was before realizing what is going on hearing glass breaking noise. Then I opened my eyes or gained thought, and I was taking my arm out of the window. And my window is by my bed, but it is a very small window and high up, I was standing up leaned into the wall when I woke up.
I am 27 years old, and I was sober. I do not have a drinking problem, and have not consumed alcohol in over 2 weeks. When I was much younger I used to sleep walk. I would hear stories of how (like 10 or more years ago) I would get up and have full conversations with family in the house, talking to them as they were someone else, but full conversations. I wouldnt always talk, Sometimes I would wake up in random place, And sometime I would get trapped and start to scream and yell to get out. But eventually all that stopped. I had a couple sleep walking issues from then till now, but that was only a one or two time occurance. I have never injured myself, or ever made it seem as though I could. It has been a while since anything like this has happend, and I am concerned to even go to sleep at night, because I don't want to wake up and have shoved my head in a window or something even worse. Thanks

Hi, Pat! You have to see a doctor about it. If you say that it doesn't happen often, then you probably don't need to be so worried and just get help. Maybe you didn't mean to injure yourself when you were sleep walking and it was an accident. Ask someone to sleep in your room too, so they can keep an eye on you. How are you doing?

Hey Pat,
Don't worry about that. It is a psychological problem and there are many people affected such kind of problem. But it removes when time goes. You can consult with mental specialist if you have depression with anything. In my childhood when I saw the tree in night, they looks like ghost to me. Now now I can walk in midnight without any fear. so, there is no reason to worry.

I sympathise. I have only just come to the conclusion that my sleepwalking is not normal.
I have sleep walked for about 8 years now. (possibly longer, but I didn't know about it)
I have already severed a tendon in my hand, have fallen down a step or more than one occassion. I frequently wake up with bruises all over me and I don't know why.
I also wake my husband up about 3am and tell him to go to work. I have also peed on the floor on more than one occassion, I have also wandered round a campsite naked. I have held conversations in the middle of the night that I have no recollection of.
I know stress makes things worse, but I have no idea how to stop this behaviour.

document it. My uncle has been having trouble like this for years and no one will believe him. i have seen it myself but we don't know what is wrong or how to help hes always sleepwalked eaten cooked showered in his sleep but he is falling more and hurting himself more. he ripped the shower door from its hindges while sleeping knocked out his four front teeth on a chair broke a toliet by falling on it twisted his ankle busted his knee blackened both eyes several times. maybe if more people report it we can figure out what is wrong and the docters will start believing people and stop making jokes about tying him down at night.
