Doing repeatedly CBT Exercises healed me from my Addiction!

Postby Naiwen » Fri Jan 06, 2017 8:39 pm

Over the past couple of days, to cure myself from my shoplifting addiction, I've repeatedly done 3 times the same CBT exercise. It really helped. Now, I no longer got the compulsion to steal anymore. I've identified what I was feeling for every instances that I stole something, and after a deep psychological analysis, I figured out that it was because I felt satisfied after taking something without paying for it. And not only that, only jewelry I find pretty triggered me. Also, it was because I thought I was ugly without wearing any of them and always needed more, but can't afford them.

My reason number 1 : finding satisfaction in it. Solution to it : finding other ways to get the same satisfaction. Meaning a replacement for this illegal and not at all beneficial activity for me. Could put me in jail.

My reason number 2 : I thought I was ugly without wearing any jewelry. Solution to this one : telling myself that I'm pretty enough on my own, without any of them. And as proof : I'm attracting plenty of young and handsome men and have been in plenty of relationships with them, plus lots of men have found me attractive and pretty.

My reason number 3 : I thought I always needed more of them but can't afford them. Solution to it : thinking that I should be satisfied with the ones I've already got and I didn't need anymore of them.

I'm done these exercises in a note book and must say, I'm pretty proud of myself today. So, if you're still struggling with this addiction, I recommend CBT exercises for you. They really help.

I'm glad that CBT is working so well for you Naiwen !

It just goes to prove that we aren't "doomed" to be enslaved by our compulsions . We can change but it takes determination , desire and work .

I'm happy for you .

Thank you, but an ingrained habit is tough to change. And I hope CBT helps too, with your gambling addiction!

It's called the ABCDE exercise. I can type it out for you in pm. And do them daily in your head as soon as you walk into a store.
