When someone is in a relationship with another person who experiences delusions, the partner will share and believe the same delusion.

That would explain some wierd events like the Koolaide suicides at Jonestown in Guyana, and other such tragedies.

Could this also spread beyond folie a deux to entire groups of people adopting false belief systems regardless of all evidence to the contrary?

Differences

How does shared psychosis differ from two individuals who experience similar delusions? For instance if two individuals have schizophrenia, then they may likely both feel persecuted and reinforce this belief in each other. Is that the same thing as shared psychosis? Thanks.

What about people who become involved with delusional support groups? Web sites like http://www.stopeg.com/neighborsmurderers.html?

My best (male) friend and I used to have this all the time. I also had this with a couple girlfriends, and with my wife when we first met.Acouple other guys and girls along the journey.
It wasnt just thinking about the same things at the same time, it was stuff that could be considered spiritual, visionary, or delusional. It would take years to figure out just what was delusion and what was 2 minds sharing like space. Both people thinking about cooking the same food for dinner and expressing their wishes verbally at the same time doesn't count
Both people seeing and hearing a ghost at the same time might count.
Both people talking and agreeing they are both related from some place in 2,500 BC and have a mission to inform the world and re-establish their "kingdom" definitely counts. :!:

My mother has finally been diagnosed with Foix A Duex. A shared delusional order with her and my father. She's the initiator and he's the receiver/participant. There's no way to separate them as she's highly intelligent and can pull it together when police or other authority figures come into play. Removing yourself from the patient is the only way of sanity. Good luck. I removed myself two years ago and became healthy again. I've tried and involved everyone possible to get them both help. It's impossible and the ONLY treatment Is removal from the situation. Protect yourself and your children if you have them. If its a child your dealing with then get them help otherwise , in adulthood it'll be impossible!
