Eleanor Payson's book, "The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists: Coping with the One-Way Relationship in Work, Love, and Family" was the first book that I read that helped me "figure it out".
I highly recommend it.

Iron John by Robert Bly (this is for guys)
Dance of Wounded Souls by Robert Burney (Nicely written book for anyone)
How to Let Go of your Mad baggage (starring the Mads Family) ( great for families)
Walden by Henry Thoreau (classic literature by someone who has a 'different' outlook on life).
Oscar Wilde stories..... a lot of narcissm in there (more appreciation of its positive side) and seeing the 'dark side' of the 'nons'.
Codependent No More by Melody Beattie (nice read and explains a lot about interpersonal dynamics).

This is an incredible resource. Thanks for sharing all of this. I'm confident I'll be buying some of these. I will say I was a little surprised to not see the Amazon favorite Why Do I Do That?: Psychological Defense Mechanisms and the Hidden Ways They Shape Our Lives Paperback – by Joseph Burgo Ph.D., which describes the narcissist's ego defense mechanism in ourselves, and how to disarm it.

Easyfromhere - I'll order some of those titles. I neglected to apologise to you directly for my strop the other night. I find that the only women I'm interested in are Ns and their friends are all Ns!

Add to the books, the Mads family is by Lynne Namka, she writes lots of stuff for kids and families, nice lady.

Hi, I am new here and am learning a lot as I read the posts.
I have a 16 year old step son who has displayed NPD traits since I have known him (4 years), but I only have recently realized it.
Does anyone have a book recommendation that I could give him to read that might give him insight into his own behavior? He has somewhat below average reading skills for his age.

I'm currently reading
Healing The Shame That Binds You
by John Bradshaw
He outlines how shame can be a healthy limit to our self esteem but once it becomes toxic we develop an identity based on shame. I've just started but already I feel like there is tremendous help in this book.
