Marijuana and Psychotic disorders

Postby OrangeOcelot » Sun Aug 26, 2018 1:27 pm

Hi all,
Wondering what experiences those diagnosed with psychotic illnesses have had with weed. Do you find yourself suffering with panic attacks/ strengthened psychotic symptoms? Do you think weed worsens your illness based on personal experiences or does it sometimes assist you with alleviating negative symptoms as I’ve sometimes noticed?

Always smoked weed in moderation and had lots of fun with friends/girlfriends.
First psychotic episode was a huge bong rip freshman year with some people I didn't really know. I just felt like a zombie afterwards. I never really liked bongs because I always would get too high.
It never really made me that paranoid in moderation other than getting in legal trouble. It's still a felony in some states.
Be kind to everyone you come across because you never know who’s suffering inside.

I smoke everyday. It seems to help. I have to quit because every time I smoke I throw up. As if life couldn’t get any worse now I can’t smoke.

I dated a schizophrenic girl once. She smoked weed often. Funnily enough I don't think she ever got me high. I was applying for jobs so there's that. Anyway, the weed certainly didn't make her less crazy in fact she had mental episodes while high. One thing she said to me that stuck with me was she said one time she tried acid and her mental problems got a whole lot worse after that day. I didn't know her before she tried acid but I've herd acid can cause schizophrenia to surface and never go away in some people. something to think about,

I wasn't diagnosed with schizophrenia but I do take an antipsychotic for my hallucinations and delusions. When I was on Risperdal (3mg), weed ######6 sucked, I would feel like I was in an endless cycle of repeating myself because I thought no one could understand me. My head would heat up, and I felt like I would never be sober again. I didn't have hallucinations, but sounds were amplified, so I would continue to hear it echo in my head. I stopped taking that medication for 2 weeks, and in that time marijuana was amazing. I loved it, I understood why people would get high everyday. If you've ever tried Lyrica, it was comparable. A pleasant, soothing high. Then I started taking Zyprexa, and I had the same issue again. Overall, it didn't worsen my psychosis but it was not fun when I was also medicated. (That's not to say that you can replace medication with weed, or that you should stop taking medicine for weed. God no.)

It gets better everyday. Does it? It's what I need to believe.

There are multiple chemicals in weed. The two major ones are CBD and THC. Studies find that CBD treats schizophrenia and mental illness but the going consensual is that THC can make it worse. So a 25% THC 0% CBD strain will be a lot different compared to a 6% THC 14% CBD strain.

Got high. Got smarter. Got insane.
Worth it finally to be sober. Its a coping to get you across the line. I used it for that, I wasn't chasing a feeling I was stimulating my mind to see more. Very useful for that. Oh the insanity.

I don't smoke any more. Probably because I have less trouble with behaviour off if it.

I was still getting aggressive drinking instead. Stopped that too.

No weed and little alcohol now: less relapse. Its been two years and I'll stay off it.
