A thread to comment on what you are watching at the moment, and what you think of it.

I am currently watching 'Too old to die young''.

It is moody, artistic, clever, with great dialogue. I wish violence did not play such a central role and I have been trying to imagine the amazing creative talent of Nicolas Winding Refn applied to a different genre, other than psychopathy and violence. But I guess it is his thing.
I enjoyed season 3 immensely after having a smoke. Perhaps it is the best way to appreciate this series, which is v. compelling whether you love it or hate it.

I'm watching "Friends" for the first time. It seems very trendy at the moment to either be watching it, or complaining about it, or both.

Things I like: I've always fantasized about being part of a small group of friends, who were friends no matter what. In reality I would absolutely hate the way they live in each other's pockets.

Things I dislike: A group of boring people with boring jobs - and the only one who has anything interesting to say gets shut down for being boring the moment he starts to say something interesting.

I secretly imagine that Ross (who has both a PhD and his own apartment) spends every moment he is not on-screen wearing noise-cancelling headphones and reading. No one else ever seems to pick up a book.

I just finished season 1 of "The Sinner". It was OK. I wasn't sure if I was going to finish it because it got a little slow and seemed to go in circles for a while but the payoff was worth it.

I hate investing time in a movie or TV show only to realize it sucks and I no longer care.

"Mindhunter"is supposed to be good, but I watched just the teaser of the first episode and was a little annoyed by it. Not a good sign. But I will give it another chance tonight.

I got a Netflix account. Here's my scoop in no particular order.

"The family" interesting doco exploring the roots of modern Christianity in imperial American politics
"Wild wild Country" is another fascinating one about religion and power.
"Black mirror" has some interesting future ideas
"Maniac" somewhat relevant to this forum. Ultimately about intimacy and love.
"Our planet" is something that is nice to have playing while one folds laundry.

I enjoyed "Maniac" but (spoiler alert) it never lived up to the concepts it laid on the table at its oustet, at least to the degree it's pretense hinted at. Instead, it pretty much devolved into a "guy gets the girl" thing by the last episode. I felt cheated.

I abandoned it a couple of years ago , then returned to it recently. It is really good, once you adapt to a slow pace.

Its great to have 100's of episodes of something to watch that others have seen and liked. I watched Sex and the city recently. Cant imagine watching it on a weekly basis. Always better to wait until you have all the episodes .

Here's another two on Netflix that were quite weird and interesting.

Bojack Horseman - intergenerational codependancy, dysfunction, loneliness and friendship.
Evangelion Neon Genesis
the end of Evangelion - Identity, despair trying to find meaning from the lens of post war japan. To choose death or life?

Maniac

Watched the trailer and I can't help but think of MK ULTRA.

I'm watching the eighth season of Supernatural. Good show.
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore
