Do You Sleep Alone?

Postby Oblivion » Thu Feb 07, 2019 9:06 pm

I'm guessing most people here probably do.

If so, have you ever shared a bed with someone? Did it affect your ability to sleep?

A few people here have partners. Do you sleep together? Any problems with that?

Even when I had a partner, we didn't share a bed.
I will always share with a pet, however.
Don't like sharing a bedroom either.
Could never share a dorm or go for backpacker style lodging . If it was the only option for travelling, I just wouldn't go.

I have shared a bed on occasion when I used to go to summer camp and everytime I wouldn’t be able to sleep due to the other persons proximity. I like having my own space.

When I used to sleep well (like a rock), I don't recall noticing a difference sleeping with my partner. Now that my sleep is lighter and erratic, it seems worse. However, I have had issues with sleep apnea and snoring so I will get the occasional jab also. I've considered getting a nice air mattress or renting a room for a week to confirm if there is a difference.

Not schizoid ....but have never been able to sleep in the same room with another person. Even when I was a kid my mom would try to make me take naps with her sometimes but I couldnt. She would yell at me every time I moved...."lay still." So, i had to just lay and stare at the ceiling while she slept.

I cant let myself be exposed and off guard like that around anyone. No way.

Of course, nowadays I barely sleep more than a few hours and that is only because Im drugged.

I think I have too much anxiety to even sleep tbh.

It is a horrible thing. My friend has crippling anxiety. I honestly don't know how people cope with it. Sleep deprivation is my worst enemy. Just cannot cope with not enough sleep/ fatigue.
I often wonder if CBT therapy , the kind that successfully treats phobias would work for anxiety the basis of which is fear, in my opinion.

I sleep alone. I've been single for years. I just haven't found the desire to change that in years. Must be ice on the hill preventing me from getting "over the hump" lol.

Other than if the person is annoying as I'm trying to drift off, or my cat kneading his claws into my arm, I don't have problems with sleeping with another person in bed with me.

I mostly sleep alone (boyfriend stays up until 1 in the morning at earliest and I wake before dawn).

I tend to sleep a bit "too great" by which I mean I don't wake up easily. I rarely have insomnia. With the level of the meds I take for ADHD, all I can guess is I'm close to being narcoleptic. Both conditions take the same meds and have very close symptoms. I have heard people who have bipolar (like myself) have insomnia off and on with same going for narcolepsy. Unless I do something like drink too much caffeine late then I don't have any issue with falling asleep quick. No clue what my deal is but since I now can wake up with an alarm I figure it's "ok." For a couple of decades I couldn't be woken by an alarm and now I have to have 4 set. Usually, I get up by the third. I found if I leave my morning dose on my nightstand I can take it and sleep for about another hour until it kicks in and be ok.

I absolutely can-not tolerate sharing a bed with another person.

It was a big problem in my relationships because it was "expected" to share a bed with your partner, but I could barely get a wink in. Usually I wound up climbing out at 5AM to read or make breakfast or pass the time until the sun came up.

I'm none too thrilled sharing a bedroom with others either. I had a stay in hospital recently and they stuck me with a room-mate. I couldn't object to the staff without seeming like a whinge, but it was... awful.
