I think a cat is the only thing I could tolerate for the long term. Even then, when I think about it, I don't really want to deal with that either. I keep my impulses in check but I think on occasion, I'd just disappear for a week and that wouldn't be ideal for an animal.

I think the impulses are due to not really being tied down to anything and maybe hoping for a spark. Morally tied to my family but they are getting to an age where they just do their own thing anyway. My wife doesn't think it's funny when I mention I'm just going to go off and do something. Due to her dogs, it restricts what the family can do on whim so in a way, she is partly to blame. It's even worse now that she doesn't like the older dog being boarded.

Rigth, escalation of conflicts and junk. I'll be looking to rent an apartment some time soon. Any advice for a first time mover? I'm guessing to keep the stuff that's important. Not sure what else.

I've never done it, but if you can I suppose movers might be a good option. Last two times I moved my boyfriend's huge family helped. Even then it was a huge pain despite being minimalists. Moving always sucks. I've done it a larger number of times than I wish (over 5 and closer to 10. It's sad I'm not sure).

Keep in mind, there's a good chance something will get damaged whether it's you or another who does it.

Put possessions that are needed on the regular in one area and everything else somewhere like your living room so you will slowly unpack them. If it's something you can't throw out, you can put it in a closet of course but it's a good time to get rid of trash and unneeded items.

I know how to bake but you might want to ask naps. From what I've read, he bakes pretty often.

Go here: https://roccospastry.com/

Cookies are like $350 per pound. It's almost worth it.

@Empathysucks not sure if my advice is applicable to you but one thing I have learnt is to go through your apartment within the first week to check if there is any damage that needs to be recorded and fixed by the landlord and to also take time stamped photos of the apartment. This prevents any arguments in the future.

Also try and pack so that the items you need when you first move in are easily accessible in case unpacking takes longer than expected.

@Empathysucks I can not live under another tenant. Hearing footsteps above me drives me crazy. It intrudes on my isolation.

If you order cable, do not get satellite. Sucks.

When you see your new neighbors, be very polite and pleasant, but curt about it. Don't set a precedent that you are approachable or open to invitations.

Get a parrot.

Does anyone have recommendations for horror movies that are actually scary?

Truly scary horror films are hard to come by, unless you call jumping because of a loud music cue scary.

"The Witch" is pretty good. It's not scary, but (with the exception of one awful shot) it's the best true horror movie I've seen in years. Netflix has it now, I think.

Keep in mind I reject any horror film with a teenage cast, a doll, or the words "Part Two" in the title. (shut up Dazz)

"Hereditary" is supposed to be really good, but I haven't seen it yet.

"A Quiet Place" is supposed to be scary also. Again, haven't seen it.

If I want to get scared, I just watch the news.
