Loss of Motivation?

Postby MourningDove » Thu Feb 08, 2018 2:41 am

I've been living with my Schizoaffective diagnosis for two decades and it's gotten to the point where I feel I have no enjoyment or motivation to do anything anymore. I'm simply too exhausted.

My depressive states are lasting longer than before even though I'm on a new mood stabilizer I can't seem to break out of the lethargy and desire to sleep.

Do others experience this?

I'm experiencing loss of motivation now, but not the sleepiness. I'm going through and episode though. If I had a suggestion to you, talk to your doctor about it. There are a few things to consider.

How long have you been on your mood stabilizer? Your body may be becoming resistant to it, if you've been on it for a while. If you haven't been on it all that long, there may be a better drug out there for you. These are things to talk to your doctor with. Maybe the medication is sedating you. Risperadal did that to me. It turned me into a zombie. Sleeping 14 to 18 hours a day, no emotion or anything.

The sleepiness has been for several months.

I just started my mood stabilizer last week.

I see my doctor for a follow up in three weeks, so I'll inquire further.

I find that I don't enjoy making art or being creative the way I used to. It's hard to be motivated to do anything when I don't get any positive emotions from it. I drag myself out of bed in the morning and do what I have to do but as far as hobbies, I really don't have any.

I started a drawing a few days ago but I doubt I'll finish it. I still enjoy hot showers/baths and listening to music but often I neglect myself and don't have the motivation to shower. I'm diagnosed with major depressive disorder so I lay in my bed and stare into space or take naps a lot but coffee helps with that. I have to drink coffee so my medication (Zyprexa) doesn't make me tired af.

I also can't sit through a whole movie like I used to, I take breaks every 10-20 minutes and do something else then come back to the movie. I get distracted and lose interest because my mind is so loud.

my voices argue with me whether or not it's worth it to get dressed in the morning since I don't have anywhere to go. so I tend to stay in pajamas. I rarely have motivation. when I do I take advantage of it and get things done.
