Something therapist said tw

Postby Dnester » Sat Aug 18, 2018 12:35 am

So my therapist tells me she has some upsetting news then says she thinks my mother sexually abused me because I am attracted to nuturing women, counselors, yeachers, mainly older women in these positions.( I am a female by the way) also because sometimes I think about what it would have done to woman had I sexually abused them as children. Its exciting and I dont mean sexually. Sometimes I also just think about that had it not been me that done it so she said she had the theory it was my mother or at least a woman. Isnt that a wild accusation to make based on no proof.

Without anything else, outrageously so. I mean, there could be all sorts of reasons for such an attraction. Maybe you should consider finding another therapist?

umm wow.. and not a good kind of wow. :|

I suppose if you've got suppressed memories and you've been trying to figure out what could be in the spaces where memories should be, it's a suggestion that's as reasonable to consider as any other - but she's saying it as if it's a truth.. a very near definite
I really dislike this.. :|

As Sprock suggested.. perhaps a new therapist would be helpful.. what do you think ?

btw.. in my opinion, and from what i've seen from others - the most likely cause of an attraction to nurturing women, counselors, teachers etc (other than the fact that being attracted to someone empathic and caring is oc a great attraction to have!! and perfectly normal for many many people with zero abuse in their history ), is due to an emotionally abusive/vacant parent - we seek out something we're missing.
Might make sense for you.. might not - but i really would place your therapists suggestion to the side for the time being - it's just too much conjecture
Shine me a light up
and i'll run round the moon..

I really think she means well. She doesnt want me to think my sexual thoughts about kids are something i was born with. So I think she wants me to believe i was sexually abused and is just coming up with theories. She said it was just theories but last night i did have a flashback but i dont know if i can trust it.

I don't think that a therapist would put this upsetting subject out there, unless they were trying to spur a discussion about something that they may have heard you say during a session. An 'accusation' of sexual abuse is a very strong charge and probably not what was intended.
I find maternal comfort in the older women at work and out with friends, the grandmas with the demeanor and wisdom for when I am in need of assistance (I'm a male). Nothing wrong with it. My own mom is gone now.
A good therapist tries to dig deep and get to the heart of the matter. You might try asking why they would bring up such a subject. Certainly if there is nothing there, it is time to move on with other discussions. Anything is game and is worth talking about if it affects you so profoundly.
Statistically, probably about half of a therapist's patients may have experienced some sexual experimenting or trauma during their childhood. It may be a reasonable question if the therapist heard something from you that might have roots in abuse (or not). There are many patients who may not be able to discuss it without great difficulty or have repressed it deep inside. It may have been written off as a bad dream once or a distortion of a young story-telling imagination.
Therapy appointments are expensive and time-bound. They try to pack a lot of counseling energy into a short period of time. Keep working towards your answers.
Best of luck to you. :D

Well she said that based on my original post. The the fact that I find nuturing women. The fact that I find woman who I see as motherly as mother figures and sexually attracive. Also the fact that I have thoughts about how it would have ruined woman had I sexually abused them as children and the fact I find it exciting when women are wounded that way. Thats what she is basing to fact that my mom sexually abused me on. She said if it wasnt my mom it was a women. I had a flashback friday night of the way someone pubic hair felt through heir underwear against my mouth and now I dont know if its real or not.
