Who of you has experieneced date rape?

What did you do afterwards? Report it to the police? Did you ever confront the sexual offender?

I am trying to heal but its very difficult, What helped you to heal?

Hi, I was date raped too and it’s been a whirlwind of an experience I’m still going through. I can tell you a little about my experience.

Afterwards I was struggling for months until eventually I was able to talk about it and accept it. But I’m still not recovered.

I never reported it, and I’m still figuring that part out.

6 months after I confronted my offender, and it was a really confusing exoerience bc he acted really sorry which made it harder to see him as a villain. (But who knows if he was telling the truth)

My advice would be to talk it through with people. Have you told anyone details of your assault? After I did that it was a weight off my chest. I had told people I was assaulted, but sharing the intimate details I thought I’d never ever share was much more therapeutic.

Feel free to message me if you need support, I’m still trying to heal and could use all the support I can get

Hi Natalie,

I was date raped a couple of years ago. I had already been raped violently when I was young so I didn't hesitate to look for help from my friends and family this time around because I learned the first time that support was so important for me. I've found that there is a learning curve to rape recovery in that I already have learned some coping skills that work for me. However, it is also more difficult in that everything has come to the surface again including child abuse, prior rape, misuse of power, assault, all of it.

I have never gone to the authorities. I don't judge anyone one way or another for that. I think that after rape ( which can literally feel like a near death experience) a person may need time to recover more than anything else. Still other people I've talk to have reported their rape and felt strong for having done that and they say it helps them recover. It may also depend on the situation. My rapist was a lawyer and focused on cases involving assult so I figured it would be really hard to face him and not worth it. Also, I think it's important to give yourself what you need. When people have taken from you in this horrible way, it's ok to focus on YOUR needs. So do what you think is best for you. I do think that focusing back on my needs has helped a lot. Take care of yourself. You aren't alone. It takes time but it'll get better.
