Goodbye Psychforums and congratulations to all the MAPs who worked so hard over the years to make this happen.

When this index first opened, and someone posted about MAP issues, the thread was locked, see here: paraphilias/topic9995.html

Next came the phase where MAPs posted but were explicitly labeled mentally ill by the board moderators, and anyone who dared talk about MAP issues was promptly reported to the police, see here: paraphilias/topic23815.html and here: paraphilias/topic19900-10.html

Years passed, and during this period the position of the board softened vaguely, but people were still being banned for suggested MAPs' feelings were normal and natural, and people were being reported to the police on even vague pretense, see here: paraphilias/topic159826.html and here: paraphilias/topic154040.html

But then a big change happened outside: the American Psychiatric Association removed mere pedophilia from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental illnesses. All sorts of sympathetic organizations like B4Uact and Project Dunkelfeld started to appear, and major publications like the The New York Times were also starting to present a different image of MAPs. Psychforums was slow to get with the times, but eventually some changes of index moderation transpired and people started to get some leeway to talk straight about MAP issues, even threads like this appeared which previously would have resulted in a ban, a locked thread, a label of mental illness by a moderator, and a report to the police, see here: paraphilias/topic169885.html

Merely having MAP thoughts and feelings is not itself a psychological problem and no longer fits in this board. Congratulations on everyone's hard work and perseverance, and to all those who have written here, taken forum bans, endured name-calling and labeling, and police harassment: it is finished. You've come a long way baby!
