Biting

Postby Aviendha » Thu Jun 03, 2010 4:40 pm

Recently I've been experiencing a new obsession/compulsion... biting. I feel this uncontrollable urge to bite. I've been biting my dog a lot lately too, which is really awful. But I don't know what to do. I just feel like I have to bite him. I try my very very best not to bite hard so that it hurts him, but I have this intense desire to really just tear into him. I wouldn't! I wouldn't hurt him. Most of the time I restrict myself to gently biting, but that urge to chomp down as hard as I can is still there. I'm obsessed with the feel of the fur and the skin between my teeth. I obsessed with the way his fur tastes, the way he smells. If I were in the wild, I would probably try to kill and eat an animal with my bare teeth. I just can't get this obsession out of my head. I want to bite!

Hi again my friend,

This is an obsession that I have not heard of previously, but it is in keeping wit the tune of OCD (in that virtually anything can become an obsession). For the moment, do you think yuo could chew some gum to minimise how often you bite things? While this works (and if it works), maybe write about why you do the biting and alsop write about why/how you should stop. Ultimately, it's an obsession like any other and the less focus you give to it the more likely you'll be to overcome it. I know that it's easier said than done though.

Thank you Chucky for the great ideas. I'm not biting my dog at all. But the thoughts won't leave me still. Everytime I look at him, I have images that I can't get out of my head... I found it helpful to scream a lot lately. It's probably built up energy, and I feel better once it's out. Of course, I wait until no one's at home, lols, or they might think I'm nuts.

..."scream" a lot? - You mean that you use this as a way of releasing the frustration etc? I wanted to say too that over the last few days, whenever I look in the mirror, I see your avatar in my reflection. It's not as if I look 'exactly' like the person in your avatar, but I definately have the same eyes, cheeks, and general innocent look. i'm male though, I might add.

Yea, it seems to relieve pressure and frustration. Well, they're more like explosive outbursts. Having done some more research on it, I'm beginning to suspect a connection with Tourettes (vocal tics). Not saying I have it. Just exploring right now. I've found some extremely interesting references just yesterday about the inter-relatedness of OCD, Tourettes, autism, Asperger's and ADHD. There's one book in particular that I recently saw posted about on YouTube- Tictionary by Becky Ottinger. (Presented by a video blogger also with the user name tictionary.) It's looks interesting. Haven't read it yet, as I just found out about it. But I'm hoping to get a hold of it somehow.

Ai, and Irish, too?! :-) I find the image to be striking and haunting at the same time. The girl's face is both expressionless, and yet full of expression. I don't know... I find it to be almost like a Native American 'Mona Lisa' in a way.

lol... ..so there are actually others out there who see the connection between those and OCD too? Having been here for 5 years, i've noticed that they all stem from the same way of thinking too. Others I would add into the equation are addictions (of all sorts), trichotillomania, and possibly eating disorders. i have diagnosis of OCD too, but I have symptoms of ADHD, eating problems, etc.

I'm Irish - yep - and I can easily see an American Indian 'mona lisa' in that image.
