Hoarding

Postby ThisEndUp » Mon Dec 16, 2019 3:20 am

I can't find any hoarding topics on this whole website, unless I am looking in the wrong place. Anyway, I figured OCD was closely related. Is anyone a hoarder?? I know 2 hoarders and they are tough cookies to crack, not big talkers about their feelings and I was curious about that.

Any replies would be appreciated

Yes. Are you? Why are you trying to crack these cookies?

hmmm that's a good question
I find people fascinating in general I guess
but also with hoarders I guess I have a real disconnect- I just don't understand it & I want to.
I am not a hoarder at all

From my limited understanding, hoarding is a grief response. A way of coping with loss. A way to seek Control. Emotional boundaries are poor, so we must make physical boundaries. Untreated depression. Self-esteem issues. Our emotional selves are stunted, so we must express ourselves through clutter. We can’t say I love you, so we give each other clutter. Being middle-aged & elderly doesn’t help—clutter accumulates. Is that helpful?

Plus we see 2 million uses per one object; hence, everything is “useful”.

As far as those hoarders that poop on their own floor go, (pun intended :x ). My personal theory is they’re incapable of asking for professional help when the plumbing in their hoarded house inevitably fails.

"I'm not a hoarder, I'm a collector!" is what I used to tell people. A collector is just a hoarder who thinks their hoard has value. Lots of stuff I hoard, but it's all stuff I can use for entertainment. Have I used it for entertainment? Here and there, but not overall. My book collection, for example. I have hundreds of books. I can count on one hand how many of them I've read.

I asked the 2nd generation hoarder why we hoard & they said: “We love our Things!”
Hope that’s helpful.

We want to have things, but we don’t want to take care of the things we have. Neglect is huge.

Yeah that's me.

Tell someone you love them today, for Life is short. But scream it at them in Klingon, for Life is also terrifying and confusing.

Let it go.

Me too. Thousands spent of comic books. Do I take care of them? Nope.
