What are the reasons people choose to malinger?

Is it to get drugs, attention, a disability check, or just to be manipulative? I've never understood it.

Suspected Malingerer?

Okay, I have a friend and I do suspect she's malingering to get sympathy. I haven't judged her on this and I'm accepting that she does have a problem. I've confronted her in the past and she's been very angry and confrontational but then has calmed down after a while and said she understands my reasons for believing that she's 'faking' it.

Basically, she used to be absolutely fine. We got quite close and I'd ...

What's the truth about me?

I think I'm malignant. I've tried going to the doctor about problems such as self-delusion. I feel like I have a serious problem and I've spent years researching illnesses and diseases, usually mental ones. It takes up ALL my time but no one takes me seriously.

The problem is I have no problem. But that is a problem to me. There simply has to be something wrong with me. I can't concentrate on my life ...

Is she malingering?

Since I was little I was best friends with this girl called Becky who was always pretty immature and attention seeking. Our general friendship seemed to be based on her moaning and coming to me with problems whilst I always provided the shoulder to cry on and rational advice.

I asked if I could be admitted to a psychiatric hospital for them and they said they'd interview me. At that point, ...

I don't want to be a malingerer

I guess I intend to embarass myself with this post.

I have been tempted to malinger on several occassions lately.
Firstly, when I started a new job that caused me a lot of anxiety and then I had a couple days off, I didn't want to go back. I spent several days planning to pretend that I had a relapse of my bipolar disorder and was severely delusional. I imagined it would end of with ...
