How to convince someone to get therapy

Hey there,

I know this is probably a loaded question and I hope I have chosen the right forum for this - but how can one persuade someone he's suffering from a mental illness?

In particular, this is about my dad. He's 59 and the only interests he can pursue are his job (interrim manager) and his hobby (horses; natural horsemanship) - other than that, he is unable to have a proper conversation and is ...

Covert Controllers Manipulators

Would this come under NPD or another general PD?

Covert Controllers / Manipulators as described in psychology today.

I have tolerated this behaviour from my step father for years and also on occasion from my mother. Its very hard breaking contact with my birth mother especially now as we are all in our senior years. Thankfully I am not living with them but its still happening on the infrequent times we meet.

I have tried ...

Dependent or Quiet Borderline?

How to Spot if the woman I am meeting, is Dependent or is a Quiet borderline?
She has all the traits of dependence but lately I am seeing she seems to disappear emotionally for some minor incident or when she seems to fall in love with me. Is this appropriate for someone dependent or only occurs in people with Borderline?

Can anyone advise about this behaviour (below)

I hope the way I communicate it makes sense to what is happening. Here Goes:-

"when someone starts conversation in Skype say, you reply in skype, and the person replies to your reply in skype using whatsap, you go back to check conversation in skype to see what you replied to - it had been deleted just leaving your reply."

It feels like some psychological game going on. ...

Demanding narcissistic mum

I'm 53, male. I’ve been in the mental health system since 23. Initially diagnosed with schizophrenia, and only five years ago had that ruled out, and now diagnosed DID, amongst others. So yeah, in therapy.

I live with my mum. The relationship isn’t very good. Although we live together, we actually spend little time together. Mum would like me to spend more time with her, while I’m doing my best to maintain boundaries. She ...

Is my ex borderline? Or is she being abused?

Hi all.

I have an ex girlfriend. We dated 10 years ago and stayed friends afterwards. She got a new boyfriend. He moved in with her pretty quickly. After two years she tells me they argue a lot and things aren’t going well. She ends the relationship and moves to a different city. A few weeks later they are semi- back together again. After he realised she wasn’t coming back he kinda accepted the new ...

Many questions about Narcissism

I recently discovered that the relationship I've been in for the last two years has actually been a hostage situation. Joking aside, i was with this woman (the narcissist) for two years and only recently discovered why everything about the relationship was so bizarre.
Anyway, I really need a place where I can ask a ton of questions regarding the narcissistic personality, why it is that they do what they do, and how I can ...
