Do you know who you are?

Postby GadSitar » Thu May 23, 2019 1:55 pm

Do you have a good sense of identity or is it all flimsy? I don't have any clue who I am. I don't stand for much either. I sometimes feel like an empty slate that uses logic to reduce things. My ex once called me a robot and that I should live on an island by myself. I think at one point she might have referred to me as an "it".

Like you have no personality? But you do have interests and things you do, right?

Pretty much yeah. There is a lot logical/rational thinking but not much personality that comes through.

I do have interests like nutrition, the gym and psychology. But I wouldn't say there is anything that excites me much or where I lose myself.

Becouse there is no personality. The narcissistic personality is not a personality. Its a collection of defense mechanisms against feeling and self reflection. A rigid set of responses.

Why can't they find a cure for this? Should there be a way to unravel this defence mechanism by going the dramatization process or something like that? Or do you think doing that might lead the patient to psychosis?

I've already suffered psychosis before. It started when I was severely deprived of narcissistic supply for a Long time and completely isolated. Also at that time many people had turned against me so I snapped. Funny enough I feel like my personality was somewhat enriched by this experience. I learned many thibgs I am certain I wouldn't have if I was in a constant narcissistic elation.

Hey man, that's because others are happy when we accomplish things for their sake, and then try to turn us into something else too. Your logic no doubt served you well, until your ex complains you are too logical. This goes back to our day one issue... you cannot make everyone happy all the time.

Be careful because some (many) people are always disappointed, why can't you be just what I wanted you to be? That's the same nonsense children who grew up to be NPD heard over and over. Why can't you be a perfect child, just as I imagined you should be? Because I cannot, so get over it. Others do want something too, and its not necessary to give them everything they want.

This is one way I know of to challenge the disorder. During a life crysis when the narcissistic defenses are weak, try to develop new mental capacities. Psychosis is a side effect.

Tricky territory to be honest. Psychosis makes you incredibly vulnerable and incapacitated you from functioning. But I see what you are saying.

Mine wasnt that bad I guess. Only had 1 intense episode and never lost touch with reality. Was more like: "hmm, when did all this happen?". After a few days I concluded, that it didnt happen.
