It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business.

If anyone is interested, here's Elsa Ronningstam's profile at Harvard, which lists all of her publications. She's one of the leaders in NPD study currently.

On Sam Vankin: He is a diagnosed PSYCHOPATH. He is only self-diagnosed as a narcissist. He has no credentials and even admits in the film "I, Psychopath" that he bought his degrees on line. He claims credit for a lot of articles which are all self-published because no one else will publish his BS.

But I actually came here to post these articles:

Does the Narcissist Know what He or She is Doing?
Wxcerpt: If it can’t be approval – fear will do. To make sure someone is severely affected by the narcissist is valuable supply because it validates that the narcissist exists.

Why Learning Everything About Narcissism Is Not The Answer
Except: “I believed it would stop. I believed it would get better. I believed if I could just help him feel secure – so many other things about our relationship were SO good – it would be fine.”

On Sam Vaknin:

I don't know why all people have a problem with his degree when even posts on his website that he's not a "NOT a mental health professional" http://samvak.tripod.com/#Warning_and_Disclaimer

This doesn't change the fact that his descriptions, especially for the relationship to women are drop-dead accurate. But I guess everybody should read some articles from his website and make his own picture.

Not even that is true, because you can't actually be diagnosed with psychopathy. He's ridiculous.

Those links are probably good resources for vics, by the way, from the looks. I've always thought obsessing over one's abuser was probably an unhealthy thing to do.

One of the best descriptions of narcissism I've ever found, author: philosopher Slavoj Zizek

On Sam Vaknin and his readings: Vaknin sometimes goes over the edge (eg "Barack OBama is a narcissist") but his insights seems really true. My favourite was his description of how narcissist use language which in the end loses in his mouth its most basic function - communication. narcissist uses language fordifferent ends.

I think someone had asked about whether or not they read Sam Vaknin's stuff and found it to be accurate.

I have very mixed feelings because I have listened to some of his stuff / read some stuff and I feel like it is dead on. That being said, I can't trust him because he himself has said that he has written his book simply to get Narcissistic supply and that it's not a self-help book. I was reading his work and starting to feel completely hopeless, and while I'm still not sure a "recovery" is possible, I have recently found a book that is giving me hope again.

I felt pissed off when I found out all the things about him, and I don't know whether I can trust his work or whether it's not all poison.

This is a link to a book about trying to move forward for Narcissistic and it is really the only hopeful work I have found. I can't afford the book yet but I have been reading quotes online and getting a lot of out of them.
