From Moclobemide to MAOIs

Postby etsplanetwrong » Thu Jun 21, 2018 2:35 am

So first off I will give a little background: I'm a 25 years old male, diagnosed with Autism at age 8, depression and anxiety through teenage years and then DID and PTSD within the last year. From my late teens I moved through Psychologists and anti-depressants, I finally found a Psychologist I get along with but not so in regards to Anti-depressants. I started on Escitalopram, went to Citalopram, Desvenlafaxine, Venlafaxine, Amitryptyline, Quetiapine and finally Moclobemide. I've been through varying doses on all the aforementioned Anti-depressants, and prior to Moclobemide the only one that had any effect was an extract tea I made from Caapi vines that contained RIMAs similiar to Moclobemide. I fought tooth and nail to get on Moclobemide and started at 300mgs, however my Psychiatrist not believing in the efficacy of said drug didn't want to go beyond that... so I left and am currently waiting to see a new Psychiatrist. During the several month waiting time to see this new Psychiatrist I dropped all Tyramine based foods and pushed the doses up 300mgs at a time, checking my blood pressure regularly at each interval. I am now at 1800mgs (from my research there is no therapeutic benefit over 2000mgs), and have noticed substantial positive effect in motivation, anxiety and a decrease in certain phobias. This only occurred at the 1800mg mark, and I believe this to be due to the stimulant/MAO-b effect found at higher doses of Moclobemide.

Now I honestly doubt that my new Psychiatrist will want to keep me on Moclobemide, or at least not at that dosage, and would honestly rather switch to Tranylcypromine, Selegiline, Wellbutrin or Methylphenidate anyway. I realize that my taking doses way beyond the prescribed amount is definitely a no, no, but I refused to be put back onto Quetiapine and "hope for the best" as my psychiatrist put it. Anyway I was wondering if anyone had any advice? Are there things I should mention or note? Is there any likelyhood of Psychiatrist placing me on any of these given my history? I should note that I'm on a ton of other medication and have never exceeded the prescribed dose, it was only through sheer exhaustion and with great caution that tampered with my Moclobemide dose.

Thanks in advance,

Joshua
