questions and more about mbti myers brigs

Postby ChrisM8 » Fri Feb 26, 2021 11:50 pm

Hello, I am not sure of this is this is the right forum or right part of the forums to be in. I had these questions for my therapist but she doesn't specialize in what I was asking for and couldn't point me to the right specialists So i came here for that or at least find out what to do and where to go. I am wanting to exercise or increase all my mbti functions and have them all be balanced with my dominant functions(ISTJ) having them all be at there best 100% full capacity including my 4 shadow functions.

How do I do this? Is there a way to do this? where do I start? what tests can I take to find out or measure all my functions level?

I am wanting to do this to add to part of my brain exercises because I want my brain function better, be able to preform better at any job or skill i pursue and with less difficulty.

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

I've moved your post from counseling, to the.. general purpose forum for things that don't fit quite in any of the other forums. We don't have professionals post as such, on PF, being a peer-support forum. This forum will give it more exposure for members who might have done something similar.

First off I am not a professional. The MBTI test isn't the be all and end all, in fact some people, including professionals, see it as a load of nonsense.

The thing is the MBTI test is "aimed" (if that's the right word to use) at telling you your personality type. In a very general way. I mean none of us are going to fit perfectly into those little personality boxes. We're all different, unique. But it isn't a test you need to pass.

If for example, like me, you were an INFJ, that wouuld mean you're an introvert, right? And an introvert can't suddenly change to being an extrovert. I mean they could pretend but deep down they are always going to be an introvert. So I'm not sure you can just fake it.

I don't know, but I don't think you're supposed to just pick a catagory and turn yourself into someone else. It's about knowing yourself, your true self if you like in a very general sense. It isn't a test you need to pass.

As I said just my unprofessional opinion.

I agree with RR. Some things we are wired for. Some things, we're not. To me, that's all the MBTI is for. To attempt to identify our strengths and weaknesses that are hard wired into us. I'm not sure how plastic our brains are- to be fair, I'm sure to some extent- but only to an extent.

Snagga I think you probably said it better. The funny thing my type is referred to as the advocate and I am a lawyer. And no matter how many times I've done that test (with or without professionals) I always get the same result 30+ years later. Some of it does fit me, some of it doesn't.

I was first introduced to it by a psychiatristic. And I was about 20 then. He said it might help me to work out who I am. And that perhaps the things you're feeling are actually normal not a sign of a mental illness. Just the way I'm wired.

I am now 53 and that result is just the same. I guess there are some things you can't change, you are who you are.

I think it's very hard to change a lot of what we are.

And I'm supposed to be taking one of those tests, once I decide to go back to school... that should be interesting.

Thanks for all who posted. I really am not doing it because I think I have to take it or take it to please others. I am doing it because I want to and for my own self development and improvement. I was told or saw some where on the net that It passed scientific peer review so I figured it was lagit and not a waste of time. If that's not true well then I probably wont spend my time on it.
