Thank you SuperStar. I have a liking of all music and my CD collection would give you that impression too. However - and yeh - I much prefer classic rock to modern rock. Linkin Park and Sum 41 just don't do it for me.

Well, "Runnaway Train" by Soul asylum says a lot about how I feel sometimes, particularly the chorus:

"Call you up in the middle of the night
Like a firefly without a light
You were there like a slow torch burning
I was a key that could use a little turning

So tired that I couldn't even sleep
So many secrets I couldn't keep
Promised myself I wouldn't weep
One more promise I couldn't keep

It seems no one can help me now
I'm in too deep
There's no way out
This time I have really led myself astray

CHORUS
Runaway train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here no there

Can you help me remember how to smile
Make it somehow all seem worthwhile
How on earth did I get so jaded
Life's mystery seems so faded

I can go where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just drownin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runaway train

Everything is cut and dry
Day and night, earth and sky
Somehow I just don't believe it

CHORUS

Bought a ticket for a runaway train
Like a madman laughin' at the rain
Little out of touch, little insane
Just easier than dealing with the pain

Runaway train never comin' back
Runaway train tearin' up the track
Runaway train burnin' in my veins
Runaway but it always seems the same "

That's a great song alright mullog. It's got a nice fluid rhythm and a great beat; It also has some very sad lyrics. Because of these traits, the song can have two different effects on a person: It can be a mood-lifter or a depressing song.

That's my opinion. Maybe yours is different...?

Ani Difranco "Evolve"

I walk in stride with people
Much taller than me
And partly it’s the boots but
Mostly it’s my chi
And I’m becoming transfixed
With nature and my part in it
Which I believe just signifies
I’m finally waking up

And there’s this moth outside my kitchen door
She’s bonkers for that bare bulb
Flying round in circles
Bashing in her exoskull
And out in the woods she navigates fine by the moon
But get her around a light bulb and she’s doomed

She is trying to evolve
She’s just trying to evolve

Now let’s get talking reefer madness
Like some arrogant government can’t
By any stretch of the imagination
Outlaw a plant
Yes, their supposed authority over nature
Is a dream
C’mon people
We’ve got to come clean

Cuz they are locking our sons
And our daughters in cages
They are taking by the thousands
Our lives from under us
It’s a crash course in religious fundamentals
Now let’s all go to war
Get some bang for our buck

I am trying to evolve
I’m just trying to evolve

Gunnin for high score in the land of dreams
Morbid bluish-white consumers ogling luminous screens
On the trail of forgetting
Cruising without a care
The jet set won’t abide by that pesky jet lag
And our lives boil down to an hour or two
When someone pulls a camera out of a bag

And I am trying to evolve
I’m just trying to evolve

So I walk like I’m on a mission
Cuz that’s the way I groove
I got more and more to do
I got less and less to prove
It took me too long to realize
That I don’t take good pictures
Cuz I have the kind of beauty
That moves

The last verse is my favorite! What do you guys think?

Iv'e been listening to this a lot recently: The Byrds' Time Of The Season. I continue to unearth more and more classics by The Byrds. This particular one features on an advertisement here (Ireland) for Bulmers alcoholic beverage.

SAMHAIN - TO WALK THE NIGHT
-----------------
To walk the night
To feel no love
To know the touch of another kiss
Never more

To walk the night
To forever roam
To escape inside cool darkness
Alone

I have wandered my whole life long
The night becomes my bride and everything else must die
World without end
For me

Unearthly night
World you fear
Love lies lurking, a wounded dingo-dog
Soon to decease

I have wandered my whole life long
The night becomes my bride and everything else must die
World without end
For me

To walk the night
Solitary friend
Night ethereal
World without end
Forever more
Forever

It's a sad song. Anguish, loneliness, it's all there.

I enjoy a lot of Blue October when I'm feeling depressed. I suggest looking into them if you like fairly soft alternative, as they often focus on topics of mental illness. You can listen to all of their albums for free on Deezer.com.

Also, here's a great song by Streetlight Manifesto:
A Better Place, A Better Time
And so she wakes up
in time to break down
She left a note up on the dresser
and she's right on time
You don't know anything
right or wrong
I said i know
And she said so
i want to panic
but i've had it
So i go
you don't owe anything to anyone

But don't take your life
because it's all that you've got
You'd be better off just up and leaving
if you don't think they will stop

And when you wake up
everything is going to be fine
I guarantee that you wake up in a better place
and in a better time
So you're tired of living
and you feel like you might give in
Well don't
it's not your time

Looking through the paper today
Looking for a specific page
Don't want to find her full name followed by dates
Because when i left her alone
she made a sound, like a moan
"You're known by everyone for everything you've done"
###$ buying flowers for graves
I'd rather buy you a one way non-stop
to anywhere
find anyone
do anything
forget and start again, love
She said she won't go
and that's that

It hurts too much to stand by
you've got to stop and draw a line
And everyone here has to choose a side tonight
the moment of truth is haunting you
Don't forget your family
regardless of what you choose to do
You can't decide
and they're screaming "why won't you?"
I'll start the engine but i can't take this ride for you
I'll draw the bath and i'll load your gun
but i hope so bad that you bathe and hunt

Annie's tired of forgetting about today and always planning for tomorrow (tomorrow)
Annie says "the saddest day i came acrosss was when i learned that life goes on without me" (without me)
Annie says "if everyone has someone else, then i ain't got nobody's love to save me" (save me)
Annie says "i think i'll pass away tonight, because it seems i'll never get it right if it's just me" (just me)

And when you wake up
everything is going to be fine
I guarantee that you wake up in a better place
and in a better time
So you're tired of living
and you feel like you might give in
Well don't
it's not your time

Annie says she wouldn't mind if they never find a cure for all her problems (her problems)
Annie says as long as she has someone near to make it clear she does not need to solve them (solve them)
"Oh, this loneliness is killing me
it's filling me with anger and resentment (resentment)
I'm turning into someone that i never thought i'd have to be again"

And when you wake up
everything is going to be fine
I guarantee that you wake up in a better place
and in a better time
So you're tired of living
and you feel like you might give in
Well don't
it's not your time

And even if it was
i wouldn't let you go
You could run run run run but i will follow close
Someday you will say "that's it, that's all"
but i'll be waiting there with open arms to break your fall
I know that you think that you're on your own
but just know that i'm here
and i'll lead you home
if you let me
She said "forget me"
but i can't

SHATTERED

She claims that she can’t feel
As she nurses wounds that won’t heal
She tries to be strong
But inside she’s all wrong.

She looks like she’s all right
As she grips life’s broken shards
But she’s so uptight
From keeping up her guard.

CHORUS

She’s shattered
Splattered
Blood running to the ground
She’s reeling
From feeling
That she’ll never be found.
Sometimes holding it together
Hurts more than healing.
But that depends on whether
Or not she’s feeling.

Her feet are rooted to the ground
But her soul screams without a sound
Her head and heart are in the sky
Oh if only she could fly.

Living in her mind is all she knows
She’d be gone if she let it show
It feels good to be lost,
No matter what the cost.

Repeat Chorus

Sometimes holding it together

Is more than she can pay

Won’t you find some pieces

For her today?

I made this poem when I was still in high school but until now when I read it again I still get touched by it. Cheesy I may sound. Lol

The first time I met him
I felt something new
I’m sure it was right
It was something I knew.

As I sit there beside him,
I don’t know what to do
I don’t know what to say, how to act
I had no clue.

Every part of him amazes me
Most especially his eyes
I seem to melt when he gazes at me
It’s all truth, no lies.

I needed to tell him
Right then and there
What I feel, here, deep down inside
For this urge, I could no longer bear.

But I don’t know how
Don’t know where to start
I seem to be lost
It was an unrehearsed part.

When will I have the courage?
When will the time arrive?
To say what I feel
This war, I think, I could not survive.

Time has passed
Actually, a year and a half
Yet, I spared no time
To tell him about the feelings that I have.

I still felt the same
For this boy who once snagged my heart
For this boy who didn’t know how I felt
For this boy who I loved from the start.

Now, it’s too late
I could have done something, you see
He has someone special there
And I’m sure it isn’t me.

What if I have told him?
What I felt long ago
Could it have made a difference?
Could it have been a big blow?

He could have liked me back
He could have felt the same
But, I let that chance slip away
It’s only me that I could blame.
