Internet Addiction has ruined me

Postby Marc0113 » Mon Sep 11, 2017 6:01 pm

I can't take it anymore. I've become far too addicted to the Internet, up to the point where I can't focus on other things well. Whenever I try to focus on another activity I go on autopilot and my mind just thinks about anything I've watched on the Internet. Most of my activty online involve:

* Watching whatever YouTube clips I feel like
* Constantly checking e-mails on accounts I am most active on
* Reading comments on said YouTube clips

I just deeply desire the ability to think about other things other than the Internet but it looks impossible. I've been surfing on the web since I was 13 (I'm nearly 23 so that's almost 10 years!). Not to mention I've encountered incredibly mean-spirited people online and its left me bitter and depressed. I just don't know what to do anymore. I just desperately wish I could focus on other things but I'm too used to all the quick-to-get information and multi-tasking that I can't focus on one thing. It's depressing me really bad. What should I do? How can I enjoy my life again without thinking about the Internet and the negativity surrounding it all the time? Thanks for reading.

Since for the time being you obviously don't have any other viable alternatives at the ready,
to pour your self into,
i find it a good idea to draw your attention to the current epoch-making psychologist on the internet, Jordan Peterson, who's very relatable to people like ourselves,
So in case you haven't stumbled upon him yet,
allow me to suggest a few clips.

They've already been changing the lives of a many a man our age.

I think everyone is addicted to something, besides maybe well-seasoned meditators. The Internet won't kill you, it won't give you cancer, it won't damage your liver. I'm sorry you're feeling bad. Cheer up. You're not alone.

Not directly, no.
But it can lead you too far astray from life,
hence bring about destruction akin to a death not necessarily definitively physical.

Well if you think its that bad, do something drastic.

Idk about your life situation, but just try to not use the phone and computer for 2 weeks. Just 2 weeks, nothing bad is going to happen, probably.

Even if you need to use the computer, then schedule a time in your day when you only work. Use Chrome extension called Block site to block all the useless websites you visit and all the useless keywords. Put your phone in another room on silent, and don't touch it until you do your $#%^.

Also, stay positive and humble. What I mean is, you've been addicted to the internet for ten years, so it might take some time to change your habits.

Just focus on being better 1% every day and that's it. Be happy with it.

And watch some comedy and socialize and flirt.
