What does hope sound like to you?

Postby sunshineNrainbows » Sun Jan 29, 2017 6:11 pm

More specifically, what song or type of music helps you feel hopeful?

At this exact moment for me, it's Loud Pipes by Ratatat - an electric group who typically does instrumentals. This song is very similar to a lot of the music I like. It's repetitive, slower, lyric-less but also providing a feeling of building toward something. Maybe that's why I find it so hopeful. Most of life's tasks can be incredibly repetitive but also more worthwhile than we typically know or feel. For me, this kind of music seems to mix with the repetition and help me find some sort of flow within it. It's a very hopeful feeling. What does hope sound like to you?

I just now noticed this topic, sunshineNrainbows.

Similarly, I prefer mostly slower and lyric-less music. Depending on my mood, within a compact range of an analytic calm (or such is the name of an ideal), I like having on either

  • Space Dreams (di.fm)
  • Ambient (di.fm)
  • epic orchestral (YouTube, various 2+ hour compilations), or
  • nature sounds (YouTube, only sufficiently long loops among other criteria).

These tend to give me hope for a time when I'd be able to go very long periods, if not indefinitely, without having to answer to anyone. Where I imagine myself working on endless computer-associated projects either while parked in woody and sparse RV campgrounds or while floating around through the trees of national parks or while orbiting a moon or planet in space. Whichever state, conditional on how long I have my health.

Well, back when I was living a Christian life it was Christian music that gave me hope but, since I don't do that anymore for reasons I wont go into it is now a couple of Jimi Hendrix songs, "Angel" and "Little Wing" as well as a handful of other vintage love songs.

Any Christian song.

I especially love the song "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe.

Lyrics: I can only imagine,
When I walk by Your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When Your face is before me
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your Glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in Your presence
To my knees will I fall
Will I sing Halleluia
Will I be able to speak at all...

Any sound that's authentic... but especially nature sounds and child's laughter
