Losing muscle is difficult and generally not a healthy thing to do. your body holds onto it whilst you are in starvation mode and burns other body tissue instead only burning muscle as a last resort. Do you want to talk a bit more about why you want to do this?

I want to do it because I dont like the muscle in my legs, it makes them look big and ugly especially my calfs. So I want rid of them! (obviously not all of it but a bit)

It's odd but when I read that I felt really weird, kinda like I was going to cry! Strange.

Hugs Katrina

I am so sorry you are in the position you are psychologically but please do not put your physical health in danger by doing anything that is not wise - by losing muscle you are almost doing something equivalent to plastic surgery ie a drastic intervention to change your appearence and you know that does not work.

I am thinking of you.

Thanks Cracked, it means a lot :)

But I'm not sure this is something to do with everything else. I don't think its anything psychological.

No worries. I am just concerned that with everything else this is playing into it and you are finding a new thing to not like about yourself - that is how it reads to me. But I might be wrong - it has happened before

Hmm yeah your probably right, it's just recently I've been thinking about it. Do you know of anything I can do before it gets as bad as everything else?

I agree with previous posters that losing muscle is generally a bad thing. That said, it tends to happen if you don't use those muscles enough (the body doesn't hypertrophy the tissues that aren't needed for work) and if it needs the protein for other things.

Some might say to eat less protein, but protein is important for our immune system so I don't think you should restrict it. As a better approach: find a muscle that you don't mind keeping or making larger, and try to build that muscle instead.

For example: if you do not like big thighs, but you do like large calves, do less squatting and more calf-raising. That way your body will be all "I need this meat protein to make calf hypertrophy!" and then "these quadriceps aren't doing much, let's repair the calves first and only maintain the thighs if there's leftover protein".
