Cant cope, lost best friend, my cat.

Postby ogr » Tue Mar 16, 2021 3:38 pm

Hello

I am really struggling here. I lost my cat Friday and really struggling to cope and beginning to turn to other methods to cope.

I am autistic and cats are my life, without my cats I know I won’t be here today. I need help getting out of this downward spiral.

Can someone help me please.

Well there's not a whole lot to say, except to give it time. It's a cliché, but Time does heal. I'm also an animal person, and I sympathise. It's really hard to lose our furry family sometimes, and I've had to say goodbye to my share of them. It don't get any better with age, but you have to take the grief with the good. Unless you're really old- I'm just getting to ages where my youngest pets might actually outlive me- or you are into something like certain birds or reptiles, then it's going to happen. I can't say I've ever had a cat that lasted longer than maybe 16 years- and the years seem to go fast. It's hard to let go. I try to tell myself they had a good life and that I did the best I could with them, and maybe for whoever's left, I'll do a better job.

I know it really hurts right now, and it'll never go away completely, but the sense of loss gets better with time.

With my autistic brain, I completely overthink things and can’t stop. I hallucinate badly and not really slept since Friday. I have 4 cats and need to be here for them, I have one way to cope without help, that’s drink mainly to stop crying.

Drinking is always tempting- I tend to do that a little too much, sometimes, as an escape- but it's ultmately not good. Well think of the kitties still with you!

I know it hurts, but it will get better. Take comfort in the ones still with you. Ultimately we often outlive our pets- I try to be the best Human I can be for them, and take comfort in knowing they had a good life, when it's time for me to let them go. That's all a person can do.

Relatable.

I'm sorry to hear it.
