To Crypto (Mid Oct 2010 - Oct 2 2011) my pet mouse

I remember my first memory of you. After being delivered to my place by your breeder, I opened that little cardboard box she gave me (that was meant to carry a bird) and saw you shaking your little head as if you were nodding while standing in a pile of wood shavings. I allowed you to crawl onto my bed and my shoulder just in awe of how small an animal can be. I also had to make sure you were a male cause I had reason to believe otherwise. Had a bit of a heated discussion with your breeder about that but it turns out she was right.

I gave you the best life I could give. You had a cage that was suitable to house 4 mice. What joy you must have felt when you eventually learned you had all that space and all those accessories to yourself. I enjoyed watching you run around in that plastic ball and watching/listening to you run your wheel. You loved your wheel didn't you? You spent whole nights running and running and running. It got noisy so I had to grease it using cooking oil. I noticed you also found that cooking oil tasty.

Holding you in my hands and having you run across my arms and shoulders, from one end to the next, was also a blast (though you probably didn't enjoy it as much). Watching you climb your cage when I opened the cage door, watching you hunt for those doggie kibble (your favourite food) inside that fleece scarf I crumpled up, watching you crawling inside that plastic tunnel I put together, seeing you greet me whenever I walked into the room, hell just watching you and listening to what you were doing PERIOD was a thrill. You seemed to love those lava bites too.

All that time, effort, and money spent on you was worth every bleeping penny. From converting a rat cage into a suitable mouse cage to working feverishly to try to save you from an early death. I regret none of that. NONE! My only regret was not doing enough to keep you healthy for longer than you were. Though you were the only occupant in that cage you were never alone. Throughout our time I was always there watching over you. We never slept in separate bedrooms. NEVER!

But do not dispair Crypto. You will be leaving a world of human oppression. A world ruled by petty humans who care only about their selfish selves. A world filled with so much wrong it beggars description. So embrace the inevitable and may you find peace.

You will be in my thoughts when I clean your cage for the very last time. You will be remembered. Always.

Good-bye Crypto! May you sleep in peace!
