Loss of poodle, 8 yrs old

Postby rockofages » Mon Oct 19, 2009 2:43 am

HI

I recently lost a poodle. Me and him were so close. I thought that when they put him to sleep that i would die of a heart being broken. they had to put him to sleep because he had bilateral hernias and his intestines were turning black and dying. They used a needle and syringe to try to extract infection from his bottom, and then had extracted urine. he couldn't pee or poop. we now have him cremated and he sits at my mum's house with a lock of his hair, a picture of him, and a toy we got at the vet the day he passed on. He never closed his eyes. He looked me in the eyes the whole time he was being injected with the stuff that killed him. *I'm crying just writing this* He was born in December, so this coming Christmas will be very heartbreaking. He was a wonderful dog, so so so smart. (I love you Beanie!) Dec. 2000 - Aug. 2009

Here's a poem that was in an animal book that I picked up the day he died:

Do Not Mourn My Passing

Do not mourn my passing for if you could only see
by slipping all my earthly bonds, I'm young again and free.
By day I run the Heavenly fields, my body healthy and strong
At night I sleep at Angels' Feet, lulled by Celestial Song.
So do not mourn my passing, just close your eyes - you'll see
I'm once again that frisky pup, just as you remember me.

This just reminded me of when I had to euthanize my childhood kitty. It was a little over 5 years ago. He was always a little scared of me, probably because I was pretty young and rough when he was a kitten. But I loved that big sack of fluff anyway. Anyway, he almost lived to be 20 but it didn't make the death any easier. He purred through the whole procedure until he fell asleep.

I still have dreams of my dog that I lost 6 years ago. They were always pleasant. Its one of my wish to actually see him again when I die someday.

rock of ages, I see its two years since you posted this, but if your still on here, I know your still grieving for your beloved poodle., I just want you to know that I feel deeply for you, I know poodles are different to any other pet and they are very special. When I read your post I joined so I could send this to you, I cried reading your post. Time will pass and eventually you will be able to think about your poodle without hurt. Im not religeous but Im sure she or he is looking down on you and taking care of you in some way, poodles are very protective of their owners.
But dont get another poodle until you are absolutely sure you can take good care of it for the next 15 years or so, I know poodles that lives to 18 and 20 years of age., it was very unfortunate that yours didnt get that old., very sad.
I hope to see you on here somewhere.
