I loved my parrot ):

Postby zoralove » Fri Apr 26, 2013 1:58 am

As of today, my 16 year old female eclectus was pronounced dead after a mess up by the vet. I am not only upset that they did that, but it cost her life and I still have to pay the bills when they didn't do anything to her. I have had that bird for 10 years, and I love her so much. She went into surgery this afternoon after I found her crying of a broken toe. She got it caught on something in her cage. I helped her get free, and the vet reassured me she would live and it would not be life threatening in the least. They told me she'd be ready by 5:30 but come 4:00, I get an odd call saying she passed during surgery. I was UPSET. And I mean, super upset. I still am. She followed me like a dog and I loved her like a human. My heart aches for her. I just buried her. I feel like crap. Like something was literally pulled out of my heart. I don't know what to do. I'm very anti social, so you can imagine how much time I spent with her. I am 18 years old and I just don't know what to do. I keep trying to think of the good times, but jeez, is it hard.. She use to sleep right next to me on my pillow. I'm in a lot of pain, but I don't know.. I keep thinking about how she was this morning. Happy and carefree.. I'm just confused on what to do. I need some help. ); I really miss my baby girl.. She meant a whole lot to me. Sitting by me when I watched TV, or draw.. She always made cute sounds, too. I am in need of help. );

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your sweet bird. She sounds adorable and you had her for over half your life so of course you are very upset. Is there anyone else in your household who loved her too? Perhaps it would be helpful to talk to someone who understands a little about what you are going through - though it sounds like you were probably the most bonded to her as she followed you and slept on your pillow. I didn't know a parrot would do that. That's just so sweet. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

*huge hugs* and take care,
Jan

Thank you, it really means a lot. My heart is broken into so many pieces. )'; She was such a beautiful bird. Yes, my whole family loved her. But, she was attached to me mostly so I feel as if my pain is a bit more deeper than the others in my family. We have two other male eclectus parrots and they seem to be acting really weird since the day I buried her. She did a lot of things you think a parrot wouldn't be able to do. She would cuddle with me, and she would just sit by me and watch me play games. She was just amazing. Potty trained and everything.. thanks again though.. ); it means a lot to me!

It sounds like your family will be understanding then, which is good. I’ve know some people who make comments like “It’s just a (cat/dog/bird.) Get over it” which is hurtful. When my cat died years ago, this part of the lyrics to "I Can’t Smile Without You” was really appropriate to how I was feeling:

“You know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything.”

It does get better with time.
I wish you well.

Sorry for your loss. Would consult an attorney in your area about the vet bills. Common decency would make most people wave such bills if a simple procedure resulted in a wrongful death of the pet (or person.) Might even be liable financially. Victorious lawsuits help with closure :)
