My friend cannot stop thinking about this girl.

I have this friend named Courtney who I’ve known since my freshman year of high school (I’m a junior now). She graduated and is currently working. I don’t get to see her, but we message each other all the time on Facebook. She used to have this friend named Alexandra. They were best friends for over seven years. According to what Courtney is saying to me, they were extremely close. Then, all of a sudden, Alexandra just stopped talking to her and ignored her. This all happened before Courtney and I became friends, and I have never met Alexandra. But this has left Courtney in a depressed state. It happened three years ago. Courtney had been trying to contact her, message her, and call her, and do whatever she can to talk to her, but Alexandra just acts as if she doesn’t exist. Courtney does not take this well, and does not want to let it go. Ever since I first met her, she has been talking about Alexandra. She has been saying how heartbroken she is without her. This has been going on for years now. I have been trying to give her my comfort and trying to give her ideas on how she can maybe become friends with her again, she still starts a Facebook conversation by saying something like, “I miss Alexandra so much, I’m heartbroken.” I do not know what else to say to her. No matter what I say, she’ll always pressure me with the problem. I’ve actually been getting real annoyed, but I never tell her that. Courtney is obsessed with Alexandra. And let me tell you, it is a strong obsession. She keeps saying how much she needs Alexandra in her life, and that she can’t stop thinking about her. This is very unhealthy, and I have been trying so much to tell her that she needs to move on, and that many people deal with loss and make it. But she won’t listen. Courtney can’t be happy without Alexandra. And what if Alexandra never talks to her again? Alexandra is all she ever thinks about. I told Courtney to make new friends, but she says they’re not the same as Alexandra. Will Courtney be depressed forever? She needs some advice, and I need some advice on how to help her. I can't put up with this any longer. And Courtney can't put up with not being able to see Alexandra any longer.

My first thought is "are we certain Alexandra's a flesh n blood person?" Obsessing over make-believe friends is easier to believe than obsessing over someone who basically severes ties with you.
"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I pretended to be." - Me.

Alexandra's a real-life girl, and so is Courtney. But Courtney definitely does act as if Alexandra is her "Flesh and blood". It's true.
