Help what should I do

Postby Gc681996 » Sun Jun 26, 2022 10:45 pm

Hello I am 25 years old with a bad addiction to gambling, I just feel it’s out of control it never used to be this bad, I gamble every day with money I don’t have and I will spend every penny I have playing the online slots and never rarely win and when I do I give it all back to them I just feel so lost and don’t know what to do, I closed all of my casinos down but then I turn to the bookies because I physically can’t help myself, I work where I can and even that’s the same gambling comes before bills, what do I do does anyone else have the same problem as me, I just want to stop gambling and work and earn money but I just feel like I need to gamble to get on with my daily life

HI Gc681996,

I/We understand what you are going through. The good thing is that you have taken the first step, which is admitting that you have a problem with gambling addiction.
Have you spoken to anyone about your addiction?

It would definitely help if you could reach out to someone whom you can trust/comfortable to open up to or much better if you could join a local Gambling Anonymous (GA) group near to you.

There are ample resources here in this forum for you to read, and I would advice you to spend some time daily to read the sharing or stories which will help you to understand this addiction better and how to overcome it.

Welcome to the forum Gc!

Many of us know what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck. We always look forward to that payday so that we can use it for gambling. We work hard for two weeks (or a month), only to lose it a couple days or a few hours. We lie to others and we try to get money from wherever we can. Its a vicious cycle.

These actions eventually start to become our behavior and it is very difficult to stop unless to do something drastically different. Will power is not enough and if it was enough, we probably wouldn't have this forum.

As RicardoG said, GA is a great resource. It is a group of people who understand where you are coming from and know what it is like to be in the cycle of gambling. Disclosing your addiction to another is also very useful. For me, I'd have liked to take this secret to my grave, but my wife eventually found out and it almost destroyed my marriage. It actually a hidden blessing because if she didn't find out, I'd be still gambling today. A burden shared is a burden halved.

Admitting you have an addition is a great first start! I am not sure when you live, but seeing a gambling therapist is also a great way to learn more about the addiction and how you can stop the urges.

Keep on posting your thoughts and feelings and we'll support you all the way!
