That's wonderful news RicardoG ! You're going great and I'm so happy for you . Can't wait for that 6 month milestone to arrive .

How are you finding your recovery journey so far ? Have you made any plans for your future ?

For me , mapping out my path to retirement is what gave me a goal to focus on for the last 6 years ( the first year or two was spent digging myself out of the hole I was in ). I still remember how anxious I got about my first full paycheck after my debts were paid off . The idea of having access to a lot of money again scared the bejeebers out of me .

My fears turned out to be unfounded but I kept my resolution to remain technically "broke" while I built up my savings . In the last year I've relaxed my "must-save-every-cent" mentality and taken a few nice mini-vacations . Even though they were not remotely what anyone would call extravagant , I still sometimes think " Whoa ,that's quite a bit of money you spent last month ..." .

Retirement age is looming and I've been feeling nervous , I guess .

Thanks NSR for cheering me on! :D

I find my recovery journey smooth. I met up an old friend who is still gambling in casino, and I advised him to quit and think of the future. He is not getting younger and I still have the hope that he would wise up someday.

I'm taking a day at a time, work ain't easy, but with the God at my side, I believe I can overcome the financial burden which I put myself in before this current job.

It is thoughtful and nice of you NSR to share the stage that you are currently in. I would someday be there too. Time flies (waiting for Christmas in another 2 months and 2 weeks), and I think we just have to brace the future being optimistic and positive.

Take care and wishing the best to everyone here in your respective journey of being GF everyday.

Today I will not gamble. And tomorrow I will not gamble too.

It has been exactly 6 months now of GF. I can't really recall that month of May, and frankly I don't want to remember anything of it. It is just not worth it.The only thing i want to remember is this forum. :D

I faced temptation a few weeks back. Spotted some good soccer teams and wanted to make some quick bucks. After deliberating over a period of time, I realised that it wouldn't be worth to put myself in that bad roller coster situation again just for the extra money.

Other than that, life is with its usual challenges, or as people say business as usual.

Well done RicardoG !

Sorry to say , the forum has been unusually quiet lately and although my work has kept me away from here for the last month or so , I do want to congratulate you . I'm so looking forward to your 1 year milestone !

I have a month more to go to reach 1 year. Although I know it is an achievement, I still need to be vary.
The way I feel about taking drug should be the same way I feel about gambling. Not sure if I had really come to that state.

I have surpassed this. Today is 29th June 2024 and the last time I placed a bet was 24th May 2023.
It has been a journey of ups and downs. I can't recall but this is probably the longest time I had ever been GF.

I guess it is all about the mind. If your mind is condition to think that gambling is bad and doesn't have a single benefit, you will eventually phase it out of your life.

I don't ever want to indulge in those activities of gambling. Even those of buy number tickets, predicting scores or wins, placing black jack with money etc etc. I'm not going to get involved in any of those.
