Help me I’ve relapsed

Postby adrianjky » Thu Aug 08, 2019 11:31 pm

I’ve dug myself an even deeper hole.. relapsed after just a few days.. I’ve been using my credit card to feed this addiction.. but wife is controlling my pay.. I feel so sick thinking about telling her that even when she’s in control, I still let my weakness take over and abuse my line of credit.. I want to stop so bad now.. i just can’t bring myself to tell her.. I’ve disappointed myself and people who want me to get better..

This has been going on for at least 1 year and 6 months.. I really despise myself..

Obviously your wife is not in control, (as you say) of your finances. How can she have control it you have access to credit? The secrecy is what enables the addiction to continue.
The best thing I can tell you is to come clean with your wife and get help.
I don't know how much she can help you, since it's evident you can find ways to "cheat".
Accountability has to come from somewhere; maybe GA is your answer. The only way you can stop is to be honest with yourself. Do you really want to stop? If you do, then you have to do whatever is necessary to stop. It should also be obvious you can't do it on your own. We all lose self esteem after losing a lot of money. The only way I know to regain it, is to stop gambling, pay off your debts, and try to live a happy life without gambling ever again.

Hi Adrian,

Can you share more with us on what happened?

First step, you can cancel your credit cards if you cannot control yourself.

Having no access to money or credit can be a huge barrier between yourself and gambling. If you have no money, you can't gamble. Giving my wife control of my finances was a life saver in my early recovery. As for the credit cards, those can be still secretive, but to be completely transparent to my wife, I order a credit report each year and give it to my wife so that she can see that I have closed all my credit cards and I have not opened any new ones.
