Another False Assumption

Postby 58gambling » Sun Aug 05, 2018 6:39 pm

Hi Folks: Just read another post where I was reminded of another big lie we tell ourselves when we are in the throes of the addiction and deep inside, we know we are in a bad rut with gambling....
"If I could just win that money back, I would quit gambling forever." It is just something we tell ourselves to enable the continuance of the addiction. I have "won money back" before, but never did I quit because of it. You will only quit when you realize it's something you have to do to claim your life back, and have a real chance for happiness.

True. I used to tell myself that if I could even win back a certain amount of what I had lost, that I would quit.

The problem is that gambling is a process addiction. People who gamble are addicted to the act of gambling, and winning money doesn't put an end to the roller coaster that the gambler craves. A woman in GA told me that over the years of her going to the casino she had literally won more than 1 million dollars, but wins didn't stop her. She eventually became destitute.
