Offensive or triggering ads? Post screenshots here *tw*

Postby Oliveira » Mon Jun 15, 2015 7:50 am

Hello,

many of you have noticed gambling-related ads appearing on this forum.

This is not a conscious action of the team. The ads are served automatically and context-aware. Therefore, unfortunately, the word "gambling" triggers gambling-related ads. If you see one, please take a screenshot (ideally just the ad) and post it in this topic as an attachment. Then I can report it and ask that it is removed.

Greetings!

There is actually a credit card add that I see a fair bit.

Presuming that these 'credit' sort of ads are also not really appropriate on spending/gambling addiction?

Having difficulty still with screenshot upload, as it won't accept .doc or .htm files either, but it is an American Express ad that I see regularly.

Can I ask is there an upload format it accepts as attachment? Thanks.

I think credit card wouldn't be considered offensive (unlike purely gambling-related ads) but I can always report it and see what happens. I don't decide that.

I just tried to upload an attachment as a demonstration and I got an error myself. Duh. I'll report that in the tech admin forum.

Thanks Oliveira,

I get what you mean there's a difference between betting and credit card ads.

However, given that there is a 'spending addiction' and 'gambling addiction' section isn't credit adverts almost as bad??

Though, I guess there's a real general issue here in that any 'adverts' don't really fit with 'spending addiction' :(

The attachment upload issue seems to be a forum-wide problem, I went to report it and the post right above me was another mod reporting the very same issue.

Since screenshots won't work for now, please do one of the following:
* Upload the screenshot at an anonymous website (like photobucket) and PM me with the link
* Post a description of the ad (example: "Advert for ExampleGamblingSite.com")

Thank you for your cooperation!

The sports betting ads are getting really bad. Young men hugging each other and jumping around and saying things like I only had to put 200 in and got 2 Million or saying how wonderful the adrenaline rush is. Nothing like the rush of not having money for food or rent; not 2 cents to your name. These ads are shameful and FALSE. It's pure fabrication in my estimation.

Hi Summerrose,

if it's not triggering you too much, could you please write down the names of websites/companies on the ads? I'll report them to the forum admins.

Thanks a lot and sorry you had to see that!

Hmmm when you just asked me to write them down I realized what I was talking about is a television commercial, not an ad. I can't remember the name right now but I'm guessing that's not what you're looking for. Just online ads??

Let me know. It's such an unfair and fake commercial anyway. Just awful. It makes sports betting seem like a reasonable and almost right thing to do. Like you'd be crazy not to do it which is just so wrong. It's clear they have no qualms whatsoever about sending the wave in that's going to pull you under to your death.
