No , they do not fund the forums in any way . PsychForums relies on donations and fees from individuals and universities that wish to host surveys and research here .
Clearing your browser history / cookies and installing ad blocking software will usually eliminate the ads . I never saw gambling site ads here even before I started using AdBlock . Also , if they were allowed here , then everyone would see them constantly .
If the problem persists , we can contact the site Admin and attempt to block if a source can be found .

Ok, that's fair enough - but why in that case are there even ads on here in that case? Surely the site allows/permits them to appear on these pages? Not all websites have ads allowed this way.

I will forward this on to Admin , but most of these ads are generated from browser history . I highly recommend installing an ad blocker and clearing your cache to see if that helps .

oh yes I realised it could be a targeted ad, I was worried others might see the same ad "virtual money" is quite a trigger
