How to create detection of elder abuse

Postby Forumblogger » Sat Aug 02, 2008 3:33 am

I was wondering if anybody can help with the question of how to create detection of elder abuse. I have had people post on my forum asking this question

http://forummatters.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14

And we are struggling to answer it a bit. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi,

Can I just say, firstly, that it's a terrible thing when something like this happens. It's a very unfortunte and difficult situation to be placed in for all involved. However, if the OAP is having difficulty controlling their own affairs, then maybe the relaive is only trying to help. There is the other possibility too, of course, that they are just out to exploit them... ...that's horrid to think of.

Talking is always the best approach though. The relative who made that post on your forum needs to talk to both the OAP and the other person involved. An agreement needs to be reached on this matter.

Also, if the OAP is in a nursing-home, then the staff must be made aware of the fact the OAP is being 'harranged' by this family member. In that way, the OAP can refuse the relative visitation rights.
