Feeling mixed up about having DID

Postby humptydumpty » Sat Jun 16, 2012 11:17 pm

I feel helpless about constantly feeling dissociated. I'd like to feel completely grounded for once. And all these bits of time loss get confusing!! It has been making work difficult lately. One part (no idea which) does work for me and then messes it up! I came back while this part was deleting work he just did!

One, maybe two parts talked with my doc recently. That's definitely positive, but sometimes it makes me feel helpless.

So I don't know, just venting I guess. It just brings up mixed emotions.

I'm sorry I don't know how to help. I haven't really done much work with grounding techniques. But I did read what you wrote, and I wish you the best of luck in the future. Have you tried talking to the one that messes up the work? Maybe there is a reason.

I think you need to get the word out that some of what's happening isn't working. Most but not all alters, once you reach them, tend to be pretty cooperative as long as you deal with them fairly and you're honest about what you need and why. Some of them might have heard you stating it here if they were able to watch. Other ways of communicating would be talking aloud and asking them to listen, shutting up and listening for them internally, writing to them and leaving that writing where they can find it, journlaing, speaking internally to them, calling an internal meeting and inviting them to come.

In my system, we can sort of send thoughts but the most sure form of communication is using words. Thinking thoughts to myself doesn't accomplish much of anything. I have to have an intention and use words to communicate beyond my own borders in the system (I don't know how to explain that better). Sometimes I can send emotions or pictures.

If you don't know their names yet, ask for them. If they don't have one, ask them to come up with one (depending on your system) or give them some identifier. Start putting out there what you need to make things less chaotic. You will almost certainly have to compromise. You're not the only inhabitant in your body.

If you're not co-conscious yet, in therapy or anywhere, see if you can allow and schedule a switch and try to stick around afterwards. Obviously, you're going to have to be willing for this to happen and one of them may also have to agree to have you stick around.

Thanks for your advice. I have had some success. I sent out the message "If someone is trying to tell me something/is close, make my left index finger tap my leg." It took about a week to "take", but it is working well and has helped. I have realized there some pretty strong barriers between some parts.

I have be able to be co-conscious lately. I finally figured out how to let it happen last week. When I get the migraine/pressure, feeling of shapes in the mind, body jerks, and body vibrations, I don't panic and push it away. Instead, I listen closely inside. After repeating what they say a few times they take over and talk with the doc.

It is exhausting to let it happen! I was jerky, my head ached and had shapes moving about inside for the rest of the day. Totally worth it though!

Hey thanks :D I should try that. I get the feeling like he wants to do the work and feel like he can do it. I don't know for sure, but I think I heard that his name is Max. When he is close I can't help bust listen to heavy metal and seem to get frustrated quickly at people. I don't know exactly how to confirm his name. I guess I will in time.
