I'm so glad you posted this, because this happens to me and its always been something I've been so self conscious and embarrassed of. I get these weird facial contortions and one side of my body tenses up. I also sometimes get violent shivers. These are usually the signs that tell me something is wrong. It usually means that I'm out of touch with what's going on inside me (i think).

From what I've noticed, Johann or Chibi will start shaking uncontrollably if something bothers them enough (in a panicky sense).
Johann has restless leg syndrome that acts up whenever he's lying down, it only seems to effect him and not the other four.
Johnny has a tic in his left eye, which is especially noticeable when he's angry (which generally he is, even when he's calm). HIM and Kiddo sometimes do that too but not as often.
HIM has this thing where he starts trembling in rage when he's angry, and it's kind of scary to watch. Johnny does that occasionally too, but you have to really push his temper (something Kiddo seems to enjoy doing...).

When my twitches come at night or morning, I get anxious and do not want to go to bed. I worry that I might have MS or something.

So hard to guess what's DID and what's not. Many of my alters have mild twitchy or jerky body movements that are characteristic of them, but a couple movements are similar in more than one alter. It seems that some of the faces Jack makes are anticipating a facial smack but he doesn't think so. Still, there are lots of awkward and repeated movements that I can't explain. The toddlers feel awkward in the body, but toddlers can be awkward and the body is way bigger than they're used to. I grind my teeth. Maybe any of these are ways for the body to express or release tension for an alter. Or perhaps a replay of part of a trauma.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restless_leg_syndrome

Restless leg syndrome is a well-known phenomenon that a lot of regular people have. At least two of us have that sometimes and it always continues through a switch, so it seems of the body, not of an alter.

We had a discussion of the added electrical pulses in the body of a multiple, perhaps electrical current changes are related to twitching. Just hypothesizing.

Collingwood wrote:Well, I don't have PTSD but I do have a lot of twitches and little palpitations, spasms, jerks, etc. It looks like a tic most of the time, but it's not that noticeable. Usually when I'm stressed or am coming into close proximity of a thought subject I think to avoid last minute.

Seems to me like an involuntary movement, so I dont "blame" it on DID, but I do think it is related to the DID. I think it is energetic activity that originates or is triggered, maybe by the reaction/emotion/activity of an alter, that breaks through and causes movement (release of the energy). Kind of like being shocked or having a reflex point poked.

Hi. New here, but wanted to pipe in and say that this description fits closely with my own experience, particularly the part about it coming on when trying to avoid a thought subject. I would also liken it to a "mini seizure" of short duration, usually only a few seconds long, with a fixed stare accompanying the spasms. Also, I am unable to speak while it is happening. Although I am conscious of it, it is definitely involuntary. However, I would not say it happens to me very often outside of therapy. Perhaps that is because the thoughts I would like to avoid are the same ones which tend to come up during sessions.

I can't identity with the original poster, sorry, but I have much of what others are talking about.

The day I had to quit ignoring all this was when I was having epileptic like convulsions with my hands forced to the bed like they were held down and I was screaming bloody murder. I knew something was odd before this and I know I was awake, it was not a dream, but I have no memory of this happening. It woke up everyone in the house though. I hurt my back and had sore muscles all over my body the next several days. My back has still not healed.

I would have lighter versions of this, and where just my legs would tremble. The legs were almost all the time as different alters came and expressed feelings. I will also get a sharp jerk of the legs when switching sometimes. One was really trying to get my and my T's attention by making my hands and arms go numb and tremble, and I thought it was a ISH just listening during therapy, but it was a young girl who needed her hands freed. My body parts will be taken over and that can be smooth or a sudden jerk. My face has all kinds of twitches and expressions by others.

It's all fascinating. I let them move as they wish. The worst though is the painful one. When I have any itch or anything no matter how slight that is normally ignored it hurts this one. I can barely stand it!

Also.... as far as PTSD, I don't have it or at least to the point it bothers me, but most of my little emotional parts do! The child-like alters are so scared. My teens seem not to have it - so far, but I am still meeting new alters all the time! My teens seem to be brutal,  fighters who have survived and have little fear.

Seems a lot of people have this happen to them as well.

When I get stressed or triggered, I will get twitches. I find I will blink and breathe much slower than usual, and my body will become really stiff. My fingers/eyes/lips/neck will twitch at odd moments. I went to a neurologist at least twice (probably more, but my memory is shaky) and they both said I was absolutely normal.

I can tell a couple of my alters by how slow they breath! It's scary! It's like being in a place without enough air!

Liberty, I am not sure if she was locked up, hand over her mouth or just hiding and afraid to breath hard. She is the one that breathes so shallow its scary. I gave her magic powers and that problem went away. She is very happy now!

Smirk, Similar issue here. He was almost drowned at 9months old. Una suggested I give him magic powers and get the water out of his lungs and stomach. That rescued him! He is so happy now!
